After spending the day doing Freshman orientation things at Wayne, I planned on going to small group in the evening. The New Life small group was something I had been looking forward to about Wayne State. New Life in Detroit had been planted by a family friend, who actually babysat me. So I went to small group, really hoping to make some friends. We were seperated into guys and girls. After a great time of getting to know eachother and our hopes for the year, we headed upstairs of the student center to meet all together and pray. I remember walking into the door of this conference room and seeing Chris. I found him incredibly good looking. He was rolling all around in his chair. One of the leaders asked where the other girls were, and I told them that they had gone pee and said “I literally never have to pee.” And Chris turned around with this goofy grin and said, “Oh you neverrr have to pee?” Which of course made me laugh. Later we all got invited to see the roof of one of the leaders buildings, which had a beautiful view of Detroit. As we were walking there I definitely tried to walk by Chris, I think I introduced myself first, and then Nathan his friend introduced himself and Chris. And Chris said, “Nice to meet you. I’m awkward.” The rest of the evening I found myself trying to get as much time as I could with Christopher. From there I definitely developed a huge crush.
I had a "plan" set in place. Earlier in the week, I texted Rachel, and told her that my dad had gotten a flat tire and that he didn't have his tire changing stuff, so I had to go and help him. This was to set up my plan, as she was going to be coming to Macomb that week. The day she was coming, my dad, brother, bro-in-law, and I were building a fence, and I was going to be meeting her back at my parent's house in Macomb. When she was about 30 minutes out, I called her all frustrated saying that I had gotten a flat tire and needed her to come to where I was at because I left my tire changing stuff in my dad's car and needed to use hers. I gave her an address to a park on the Clinton River. When she was just about there, I cut communication with her and left clues for her to find me. A little bit later as she walked past where I was hiding by the river, I played a song on my Bluetooth speaker cleverly placed, popped out of the trees, got on one knee, and asked her to marry me. Unbelievably, she said yes as I awkwardly lunged toward her dripping sweat from the extreme heat. She saw that and quickly changed her mind and said no. It was tragic. Just kidding. She didn't change her mind. It's still a yes as far as I'm aware.
