Casey and Rachel met at River Oak Church in the young adult small group back in 2018. For years they were “just friends,” often telling those around them that they were simply not each others type! During those years of friendship they always shared a unique connection, playing off each other’s energy and laughter whenever they were together. They even emailed back and forth when Casey was away for work as a Merchant Marine. They both ended up getting in serious relationships for a while, but when those relationships ended, they were there for each other, providing guidance, compassion, and friendship. Fast forward to the end of summer 2021, Rachel had not seen Casey for a few months as he had been out to sea for work. They were both planning on attending a small group end-of-summer cookout at a friend's house. Both excited to see each other again, they fell right back into their normal routine of laughter and witty banter, like no time had past. They left that night both realizing that their feelings for each other had changed. They started talking more frequently, and thinking about each other daily. A few weeks later, they decided to catch up over lunch. What was supposed to be a quick meal turned into an entire day spent together. Rachel spent most of that time wondering if this man whom she had been friends with for the past three years, was beginning to feel the same way about her as she was about him. At the end of the night, standing in the driveway, Casey shared his feelings for Rachel. She smiled and reciprocated. They have spent very few days apart since. After a little over a year full of adventure, laughter, many made up song lyrics, and love, Rachel’s best friend got down on one knee while ice-skating, surrounded by beautiful, twinkling lights, and asked her to marry him.
