How We Met

In spring 2018, Kevin and Zachary met like any good millennials, online. Kevin was excited to meet Flash, the pointer hound border collie, he had seen in pictures in their back and forth messages. Kevin came over to meet Flash and fell in love with him and his owner. October 2019, Zachary and Kevin went on a ten day trip to Japan to test their travel skills together. They got to see the bowing deer of Nara, the Golden Buddhist Temple (Kinkaku-ji), an international Star Wars exhibit, and have an immersive art experience with Epson Team Lab in Tokyo. Little did they know this would be the last trip for a while that they would take due to the pandemic. Kevin and Zachary moved in together right before Japan to their apartment in Arlington, VA. When the pandemic hit, neither of them missed a beat. Kevin continued to working in person as an employee of a military supply chain vendor and Zac lead a large school division through a once in a lifetime emergency. Luckily, through all the bumps in the road, a few vaccinations, and many disposable masks later, they made it through and decided to return to their travels, going to places like Saint Marteen, Dominican Republican, Switzerland, and plenty of places within the United States. On August 26, 2023, Zachary and Kevin embarked on a routine Saturday trip to grab coffee and run errands. Little did Kevin know that their trip would take a turn from grabbing their usual subs from Jersey Mikes to going to a favorite spot of theirs, Gravelly Point. They ate lunch and watched the planes take off from Ronald Reagan International Airport. As Kevin finished up his Italian sub, Zachary gave him a package with a book in it called The Pengrooms. (Side note: if you haven't read it, read it). Kevin read the book aloud and continued to say the iconic line from the book, "...and they made a great team." As he finished the book and saw that the book is signed by the author and illustrator who created the book as part of him and his husband's own wedding journey, Kevin noticed that Zachary had a ring in his hand. Zachary then asked, "do you want to join my team?" Kevin emphatically said yes multiple times, and now here we are.
