Officiant
Kane and Patton met when they were 9 and 10 years old at Keswick Club when he told our family about the Miller School, which became a huge part of all of our lives. Kane has been a consistent light, voice of reason, and dependable belly laugh for Patton throughout her life. He was always around to chat after early dates with Dalton and agreed early on that we seemed to be a pretty good fit, thankfully that was right haha! Kane, you're one of my oldest friends; you are kind, and loyal, and all around just one of the best humans. We are so freaking excited and incredibly honored to have you officiate our wedding :) ❤ P + D
Flower People + Special Reading
On our very first date, Dalton must have said 3 or 4 times that he couldn't wait for me to meet his friends Josh & Steph. After a few weeks and countless more dates went by, and continuing to hear that I would love them, we finally got to meet and I understood why he was so obsessed with them haha. Josh and Steph have a way of making everyone feel at home around them. They have loud and silly senses of humor, and the biggest hearts of anyone we know. From wine & bourbon-fueled karaoke or game nights to brunch or vineyard days, we love having fun with you guys and can't wait to continue goofin around forever! Dalton was their flower boy back in 2019, so we are honored to continue the tradition with the best flower people you could ask for, as well as having them honor us with a special reading during the ceremony. We love you guys! ❤ P + D
Special Ceremony Reading
Dalton’s cousin, Lauren, and her husband Jake, were the first of Dalton’s family to spend ample time in Virginia - due to a fortunate (for us, anyway!) work move for Jake to Richmond! After inviting them to a slightly sus-looking Mexican restaurant in Richmond as our first East-Coast meetup (Taqueria Panchito…y’all, it’s SO GOOD), and insisting they join us for a Legwarmers concert while they were here, they somehow still decided we were worth continuing to hang out with haha! Also, considering Lauren was like 8 months pregnant at Legwarmers, (and somehow still dancing more than anyone else there) we like to say it was their son Theo’s first Legwarmers concert too! We did a friends’ Christmas this past year for those who didn’t have family close-by, or who had family out of town, and had the best time ordering take out and playing games to celebrate the holiday together! Lauren, Jake, and Theo also drove over from Richmond and surprised me at our post-engagement party, hanging out at Hazy and then Pro Renata for wings, pizza, and the Smith’s cover band there. They were family first, but became super fast friends, and we’re so honored to have them read about marriage and family at our wedding!
Maid of Honor
After bonding as the only two blondes in our sorority pledge class back in 2010, Rachel became my ride-or-die homegoods, gym, food, adventure...up for whatever, whenever companion. We may be sticky note opposites in some ways, but she’s the most loyal, caring, supportive human I know, and at this point I'm sure deserves some kind of compensation beyond my undying gratitude for our phone therapy sessions haha. In all seriousness, people like Rachel don't come around often. I have always admired your ability to collect amazing friends and stay in touch with them. Rach, you are just the best, and one of my absolute favorite people! **She also knows all things 'wedding' and was the first to know about and help with this magical party we began planning months before we were engaged haha!** (p.s. ask Patton’s mom or Rachel about the sticky note story to grasp the full perfection of our friendship)! ilysm! ❤ kkg P
Bridesmaid
As soon as we met, I knew Maggie and I would be lifelong friends no matter our life phases. Maggie, you are silly, and smart, and gorg, and the only person ever to motivate me to do consistent 6am spin classes at Zoom when my usual wakeup call is like 8 (lol, **10) haha. I miss feeling like an honored guest every time you hosted anything at your house (y'all, she's the real GOAT of hosting from cooking and mixology to decorating)! You also introduced me to Silk Thai - which is my (and Dalton's) favorite takeout in Cville! You are a rockstar mom to little Mere (who is not named after me, even though I pretend in my head she is haha) and you make everything look so easy! I can only hope to handle motherhood with half the grace and whimsy that you do! Love you so much, and so excited to have you in my life, and with us on this special day! ❤ P
Bridesmaid
One of my best friends since high school, Odessa has this incredibly genuine, calm aura about her, and she gives some of the best advice of anyone you will ever meet. Always down for a good adventure, we are trauma-bonded for life after (what felt like) a near-death experience getting caught at the top of Humpback Rock during a lightning & hail storm with nothing but soggy sandwiches. Odessa collects people and maintains more close friendships than anyone I have ever met, which will make sense to anyone after hanging out with her for a bit. We spent so much time together towards the end of high school that I'm sure our parents all thought at one point that the other had moved in - which my family would have supported fully since they also love her! Odessa, thank you for being a rock for me through so many years of crazy metaphorical hail storms, ily big time! <3 pouf

My second Compound Crew sister! If you have the pleasure of getting to know Rachel over this weekend, be prepared for your abdominal muscles to be wrecked from laughing. The first night Dalton met Rachel, we had lost her downtown for about an hour, only to find her at Zocalo dancing in the DJ booth (which I don't think they let other people do, but couldn't say no to Rachel haha!) Rach, you are one of the kindest and silliest people I know, and I am so lucky to have had the honor of growing up with you! I have loved having you live closer and getting to do regular girls nights together with wine and thai food. (I’m lowkey also pretty sure you witnessed me digging face first into Keron’s skater girl birthday cake -see below- and didn’t rat me out, so, I appreciate you even more for that haha). ❤ P

Once we got past your skepticism of me actually living in Charlottesville, it was a breath of fresh air to have an immediate friend at Denison! From random hangouts at Keswick and the old school regal on the downtown mall (r.i.p.) to hosting Kappa events together at UVA…to crashing John Mellancamp and Madonna tours in NYC; I always look to you for keeping life fun and unpredictable! My only gripe is how far away you are now :( You've been a huge support and emotional shoulder for me to lean on for a whole freaking decade, and you're the biggest cheerleader for your friends! I love you homie, I can't wait to spend this special day together!! ❤ kkg P

"pat-TON!" Emily was one of Dalton's first friends in Charlottesville, and he was renting out her basement when we started dating. Since my apartment was all the way out at the Miller School, when Covid hit, Emily (graciously) let us all be roommates until we bought our house that summer! Funnily enough, I think Emily and I had the most fun with the living situation - binging chick flicks, playing games, doing each other's nails, watching and drinking what most would probably consider too much wine (read: froze) haha. Having Dalton there was also obviously cool, but despite the world pandemic going on, those few months were some of the most fun I've ever had just existing with other people! #rip700victorian Emily, you are one of the kindest, most loving, genuine and creative people I've ever met. You never hesitate to go out of your way to help others and to remind your friends how much you love them. I also like to collect redhead friends, so you being cool was a bonus haha ❤ ily! P

After originally meeting through the gym, our friendship blossomed more bonding over charcueterie boards and wine nights than it ever did sweating and lifting. Liz is another ultimate hostess with the mostest and threw the BEST themed parties at Bergen Street, generally ending with us all over-imbibing and falling asleep on her PB Big Sur couch. I LOVED our impromptu Christmas party in 2019 - having an excuse to dress up AND Daniel's rainbow 30th! Charlottesville is not the same without you! Ever fun and endlessly loyal, I'm so happy to have you stand up with us for our day! ❤ P

My sister. Our parents met in a birthing class for our older brothers so we were already set and primed to be friends from birth. I’ll never forget the excitement of a “yes” answer from the parental units when we asked last minute for sleepovers after potlucks, or the endless meetings to swap cars at the Fishersville McDonald's or Amish market (that was better since we got cheese curds)! In writing this, it brought up memories of neighborhood paint wars, Banjo Kazooie and Paper Mario, and endless made-up games at 72 E Weaver like the ninja throwing star game (how we're alive and un-maimed is legitimately shocking haha). I wasn't technically born with a biological sister, but you, Rachel, and Keron made it feel like I was :) We went through all the phases of siblings, and I’m so incredibly grateful to have you in my life, and by my side for this special day! Love you Tor ❤ P
Honorary Bridesmaid
My mom’s water broke at Keron’s 3rd birthday party (she's also my third Compound Crew sister). Lucky for me, despite stealing attention from her birthday and forcibly sharing every birthday for the rest of time ::and destroying our skater girl birthday cake before she could blow out the candles, I think I was 4 or 5? so I definitely knew better:: it’s safe to say we’ve grown closer in our old age as Compound Crew bookends. You were one of my first friend-role models because you were so much cooler than I was haha. I will say, as dope as your water bed was, I am actually mad my parents wouldn't let me copy you with that...WITH MY BACK?! No way. But I was grateful to your fashion and music tips! Also, the year I came to visit you in D.C. for Pride is still one of my all-time favorite memories! We'll be thinking of you and your new little dude on the wedding day, and will absolutely celebrate properly once you and baby are up for it! ❤P
Best Man
Alias: Mr. Bigglesgirth I met Joe at a rugby practice in Charlottesville. He’s a doctor, but once you get to know him, there’s no way you’d agree to get on his operating table. Joe is a wonderful dude, and I’m actually not sure why he hangs out with me. Joe and I were once hired talent at a bachelorette party. He suffered a wardrobe malfunction during his solo performance to Super Freak, by Rick James. Ask him about cutaway-jorts.
Groomsman
Alias: Mr. Beefy Brandon was a weirdo at my gym, introducing himself by pointing to a Batman action figure to let me know we were being safely guarded. Days later, we were stuffed in the back of a car headed to a Halloween party - he was Slash of Guns and Roses (with a comically small hat) and I was part of a gang of “don’t-care bears” with criminally short tutus. Brandon and I have been great friends ever since. I’ve borrowed his family for Christmas, we’ve successfully negotiated the entry of a golf cart onto a military base, and we’re undefeated in Small Claims Court.
Groomsman
Alias: Hackdaddy I met Tony my sophomore year of high school, and he’s one of my very oldest friends. A fellow nerd, you’ll see, I remember visible heart palpitations when he got to meet a Thomas Jefferson impersonator. Tony once volunteered to drive across the country with me (from CA to CT) over the course of three days. I can’t think of many people with whom I’d like to be stuck in a car for three days, or sharing a room at a motel 6, or pretending to share interest in all of the dumb historical stuff we stopped to see along the way. Tony has always been a true friend, even when my aloofness and bad planning skills land him in Virginia while I’m in California.
Groomsman
The Groom’s brother! And an official Virginia resident as of this year. We have loved having Mitchell, his wife Sarah, and their baby (our godson, Winter) here in Virginia with us. It’s been so much fun watching them build their home and plant some roots here. Mitchell is growing his custom bridal couture business in Norfolk, and absolutely crushing it at Studio I Do Bridals. He overhauled, altered, and customized Patton’s dress, and served as a sounding board for wedding ideas - typically over chips, guac, and margaritas :)
Groomsman
Alias: Big Bird Brandon is a cross between a 1920s Flapper Girl, a big-city socialite, and Big Bird. A man of selective integrity, he once slipped me interview questions for a job interview I was clearly unqualified for (I was very thankful). More than a healthy eater, Brandon can be described as having the dietary habits of a pasteur-raised dairy cow. See him in action at the reception, munching a healthy mound of wild grasses with no salad dressing. Brandon is honestly a sweetheart that we bully for some reason. He has taken me under his yellow, flightless wing on many adventures over the years, and he also gives the best hugs.
Groomsman
Alias: Petey Two-Hands Peter was a randomly selected suitemate, for my freshman year of college. He betrayed me only one year (or maybe two), opting to live out his fratty lifestyle off-campus, but otherwise we shared most nights together. After pulling-off perhaps the most excellent April Fools prank that resulted in police and an ambulance, Peter and I spent three nights sharing a futon while our closest friends confiscated our mattresses as punishment.
Groomsman
Alias: baby Zac Zac and I lived together for three years in college (or maybe two - as I recall, bacteria nearly took him). A wonderful influence on me, Zac and I would frequent a double-feature: coffee and studying. Although Zac has all the trappings of a renaissance man, you may be surprised to learn that he shares my love for the Dixie Chicks, Jesse McCartney, and Taylor Swift. We’ve curated a public playlist of songs we bump in secret, and you’ll hear more of these than you would prefer at the reception. Zac is all about three things: loving his homies, being a business daddy, and avoiding felony charges levied by Yale’s Executive Committee at all costs. Also, he has a dark side. He once shamed me from ever using the disability shuttle on campus (I had a minor ankle injury) simply by locking eyes with me as my valet unwittingly dumped me in sight of his judgment.
Groomsman
Alias: Juni Cortez, or Borat In four years of college dorms, I somehow only ended up with a bunk-mate one year, and it was Mario. We were opposites on most things: wake-up/sleep times, religion, ability to survive direct sunlight - but two things glued us together: Papa John’s pizza and awful music. The single greatest betrayal of my college years was the time I caught Mario splitting an XL pizza with someone else, and I’m not sure we ever really recovered from that. The combination of Mario’s tense nature and my criminal aloofness might have made for a great sitcom one day - I hope that pizza was worth it. Oh, and another thing, I was considering buying a ticket to a Third Eye Blind concert. Mario had just gone, earlier in their tour. He told me it was “ehh,” I skipped the concert, and learned only later that he didn’t really like the band anyway. I’m fired-up just thinking about it.
Honorary Groomsmen :(
Alias: Glizzy Goblin Jay is my most request acquisition, and he likes Costco hot dogs. (He had to miss the wedding due to a late-notice deployment, so he’s our honorary groomsman)
