How We Met

July 2011

I (Jessica) was working at the Haunted Depot Gift Shop in Sault Ste Marie, Marie over the 4th of July weekend when Patrick walked in my door. It was one of those corny things where the light from above shined down on him and I knew I had to talk to him. I rambled on for 30 minutes (I assumed scaring the poor guy) when the store finally was too busy for me to keep pestering him. He walked out and my heart dropped. I sneakily, stalked his movements throughout the Soo Locks until he walked by my store again. I then proceeded to blurt out that I would be out of work at 10:30 PM if he wanted to meet me for a drink at the bar down the road. He agreed and actually showed up!! The next day he invited me (via text message) to go to Drummond Island with him. My witty response, "As long as you don't chop me up and feed me to the wolves." *Face palm* I then went and told everyone I knew where I was going and Scotty the bartender knew what Patrick looked like just in case! Needless to say that didn't happen! Patrick was like every guy in every romantic movie I've ever seen, and I was my quirky, weird self. The next day Patrick left and went back down to his home in Chelsea, MI. He would like to tell you that when we met he hadn't showered in days because he was back woods camping and only was able to wash up in the river. He thinks it's funny because he was all gross and nasty when I asked him out.

The Proposal

October 13, 2018

Over my birthday weekend (October 14th) I hosted a Women's Pampering Day on the Farm two day event at the greenhouse/farm stand where I work in the Spring/Summer. I invited my mother to be a vendor and then invited my brother, my nieces, and my Grandmother over to celebrate my birthday and help me with my event. On Saturday after my event, we went over to Patrick's parents house for my birthday dinner. I was very suspicious that something was up. Patrick had done a couple weird things that made me think.......Hmm....Maybe this is going to happen. He went to the mall with his mom, his mom asked to host my birthday dinner, all my family was there, he was being SUPER sweet, and there was a Zales mailer that came in the mail. BUT no one was acting weird! I kind of just assumed that I was imagining it all! Back to dinner! We sat down for dinner and Patrick was asked to say grace which is nothing weird, but he didn't complain! That was super weird! He always complains when asked. Well he said grace and then proposed a toast! BOOM He popped the question! He cried. I cried. Everyone at the table cried! My brother (Rick) then told me that Patrick had asked my mom and himself for their blessing prior to asking me. Also, everyone at the table knew! Even my youngest niece! I couldn't believe they all kept it a surprise!
