Some of our favorite spots in Cruz Bay include Morgan's Mango, La Tapa, Extra Virgin, The Long Board, High Tide, and The Beach Bar. Be sure to make a reservation ahead, especially at Morgan's Mango. If looking for the perfect beach sandwich, North Shore Deli makes the best turkey grinder on the island - this is technically located in Mongoose Junction. St. John Provisions is also a wonderful place for grab & go treats including smoothies, pastries, and sandwiches.
Located in Coral Bay, Lime Out is a floating taco boat that is only accessible by water. Complete with tacos, craft cocktails + a floating bar, it's definitely worth a visit. It's about a 20-30 minute drive from Crazy Bay, however plan on staying there for a few hours. This is definitely an excursion!
Trunk Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, if not the entire world. Not only can you visit a long, pristine beach, but you can also snorkel the Coral Reef Underwater Park Trail, a snorkeling trail with underwater signs labeling the marine life.
Miles of trails crisscross St. John, making the island a paradise for avid hikers and beginners alike. Lind Point Trail offers impressive vistas on its 2.3-mile route from Cruz Bay to Salomon Beach and Honeymoon Beach. Ram Head Trail is a bit more challenging but offers even more spectacular views. Get an early start to avoid the heat, and bring a bathing suit to enjoy where the trail meets the sea.
The painkiller is a staple on nearly every cocktail menu on St. John. While the original painkiller cocktail was created on the island of Jost Van Dyke in the neighboring British Virgin Islands, this must-try beverage features classic tropical flavors like coconut, dark rum, and pineapple. The Beach Bar is our go-to for a painkiller, but you can try the Rum Hut, or Drink.
With so much of the shoreline of St. John protected as part of Virgin Islands National Park, the beaches on St. John are a haven for multiple species of turtles. For the best chance of spotting a turtle or two, head to Maho Bay Beach.
Mongoose Junction is about a 3-minute walk from the ferry dock at Cruz Bay. In addition to stores (think clothing, souvenirs, art, etc.), Mongoose Junction has several great dining options, including St. John Brewers, which has a great selection of IPAs, craft beers, and hard seltzer. You can also rent water sports gear and book a snorkeling or kayaking excursion here.
