Nate and Sherry's journey began amidst the vibrant backdrop of Galveston, TX, where their paths converged at UTMB. Nate, then a dedicated training specialist, and Sherry, embarking on her research journey at the University, found themselves drawn together during mandatory training sessions. As a newcomer to the city, Sherry was pleasantly surprised when Nate extended an invitation to join in board game nights with his circle of friends. Thus began a blossoming friendship, nurtured through evenings of laughter and shared moments at weekend gatherings and parties. Despite shifts in career paths over the ensuing years, Nate and Sherry remained dedicated friends, their bond deepening through connections with mutual friends at UTMB and within the Galveston community. Though hints of mutual attraction lingered between them, the timing never seemed quite right to explore a relationship beyond friendship. Yet, as the curtain closed on 2020 and anticipation for the new year filled the air, Nate finally voiced his heartfelt emotions to Sherry. In that poignant moment, they embraced the opportunity to explore a romantic connection, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their journey together.

In December 2023, Nate and Sherry planned a trip to Fresno, CA, to reunite with old friends from their board game days in Galveston. Earlier that year, Sherry had moved in with Nate and merged her household with his, including their cats! This led many to question when the couple were getting married. However, content in the present moment of building their life together, Sherry didn't anticipate what lay ahead. Unbeknownst to Sherry, Nate had arranged to pick up his grandmother’s ring from his mother earlier that summer during a trip the two had made to visit his family, and he had been waiting for the right time to put his plan in action. Following a day of hiking the breathtaking landscapes of Yosemite National Park and surrounding foothills, Nate persuaded a very tired Sherry to join him for a stroll through a nearby Japanese garden, luring her with the promise of dinner and cocktails afterward. In this romantic setting, there were many couples making public declarations of love with photographers scattered throughout the park. So, when Sherry and Nate stumbled upon an unattended floral arrangement tucked away in a corner with a solo guitarist playing softly nearby, Sherry was excited to sneak in to see what had been set up. As she moved in, much to her surprise, she saw that the name on the display was hers! Flooded with emotion, she listened to Nate describe their years together and what they meant to him, and she accepted his proposal through tears of joy!

Nate and Sherry are thrilled to now announce their upcoming wedding celebration in the the Dominican Republic this October 24, 2024! Surrounded by the beauty of this tropical paradise, they eagerly await sharing this special day with their cherished friends and family who are able to join, and whose love and support have enriched their lives in countless ways and will continue to support their relationship together in the future.
