We were introduced by our mutual friend, Grant, in October 2019. Natalie and Grant were childhood friends. Grant knew what Natalie was looking for in a partner and when he met Corey at a Timbers game, Grant had an instinct that we’d be a good fit. Grant called Natalie to share his match making plans. Natalie was hesitant, but Grant assured her that Corey had many of the characteristics she was looking for in a partner. Corey enjoyed sports and being active, was a stellar cook, had a successful career, and had great teeth. Why not give it a shot? Grant strategically plotted our introduction. He invited us both to a fundraiser. Natalie, aware of Grant’s intentions, was a little nervous that night. She first noticed Corey’s dimple and blue eyes. She found herself attracted to his genuine kindness. Corey, on the other hand, was unaware of the match making plans. He thought it was pure luck he sat next to Natalie. He was drawn to her smile. The conversation felt natural and fun. Shortly after we were introduced, we went on our first date to a Blazer game. We began seeing each other regularly – sharing our favorite restaurants, making new recipes together (Corey leading the way in the kitchen), and meeting up to watch Blazer games. We celebrated our first Valentine’s together, both showing up with a Papyrus card and a box of See's Bordeaux and Scotchmallows. A few months into our new relationship, the global pandemic hit. Certain aspects of our relationship were accelerated by the lockdown. We were forced to have tough conversations that tested our compatibility and commitment. We also wore sweatpants on date nights far earlier than the pre-COVID norm. Those challenges helped us learn about each other as partners. Natalie was grateful for the patience, security and kindness Corey showed. Corey was thankful for Natalie’s support. She was always a bright spot in his day. We found a new level of appreciation for each other, which increased our commitment to each other. While we hope we never face another global lockdown, we know that there will be more challenges ahead. We’ll face those too, as a team. Thank you, Grant, for seeing our potential. You’ve changed our lives forever!
In April 2022, Corey planned a wine tasting day in Dundee, at Stoller Estate. Stoller is one of Natalie’s favorite wineries and one we had been to multiple times together. Natalie was a little suspicious that morning. While she knew something was up, Natalie didn’t quite realize just what was about to happen. After settling in, the first tasting was presented. Natalie saw a beautiful engagement ring attached to the stem of the glass, along with a custom wine charm with their names and the date. Corey got down on one knee and proposed. Natalie said "YES!" and we were able to enjoy the initial moments together, just the two of us. Shortly afterwards, our immediate families joined the celebration! This was a particularly special moment, as this was the first time everyone had met. We’ll cherish the memories from our engagement day forever.
We are so excited for this next chapter in our lives and can't wait to celebrate with all of our favorite people (that's you!) in August. In the meantime, we’ll keep our website updated with all relevant wedding and travel details. See you in Portland! Xoxo, Nat and Corey
