Brent and Monika met on a coed intramural soccer team in Denver. Brent was actually supposed to be on groomsman Jason's team but, as fate would have it, he and Monika ended up on the same team. Throughout the season, Brent played goalie and Monika played defense so the two spent a lot of time getting to know each other on the field. Off the field, the two started as friends before realizing there was an undeniable connection. Brent officially asked Monika to be his girlfriend in February 2021 and the two moved in together soon after that. They both knew they were meant to be together.

Brent proposed to Monika during an off-roading trip in the mountains. The proposal was a complete surprise. Brent's brothers and their partners came to town for (and only for) Brent's birthday, or so Monika thought. This proved to be the perfect cover! Brent also worked with friends Dan and Leah to bring Monika's two bridesmaids, Nikki and Jenny, and her sister, Megan to the proposal spot. After the happy tears and pictures, the whole group got to off-road together through the mud and the snow! Brent had also arranged for an engagement party at their home in Morrison that night.
