Growing up, Shayla and Patty were reminded daily by their mom that sisters are “built-in best friends” and that could not be more true for the two of them. Patty has always been a confidant, prayer partner, adventure buddy, and so much more to Shayla. Though Patty is three years younger than Shayla, she is wise beyond her years, has a servant heart, and always sees the good in every situation. God truly blessed Shayla with a sister like Patty. Shayla wouldn’t want anyone else to stand next to her on her wedding day.
Sam Kim
Man of Honor
Sam first met Mike in Hawai'i over 12 years ago when Sam was at the University of Hawai'i as a graduate student. They soon found out that they shared a similar childhood of growing up oversees, living in Pasadena as kids, and traveling to different cities around the world. Mike met his true TCK (Third-Culture Kid) brother! Sam is currently an active duty chaplain in the Air Force and is stationed in Misawa, Japan. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with his family and friends.
Camille Joubert

Camille and Shayla’s love for one another runs deep and started at a very young age. Their cousinly bond grew stronger when Shayla and Camille both lived in New York City. Their time together exploring the city, shopping, biking, and trying new restaurants and coffee shops are memories that Shayla will cherish forever. Camille is the best listener, and her silly side can always make Shayla laugh. Tears are always shed when it’s time to say goodbye. Shayla feels incredibly lucky that her cousin is also a best friend!
Wesley Perdeda

Wes and Mike met in Hawai'i over 12 years ago at a church retreat. Since then, Wes has become one of Mike's close friends and they enjoy eating out and trying different restaurants around Oahu. Wes has also been like a brother to Mike and is always there to provide support and a heavy does of humor when needed! In addition to his love for food, Wes has a passion for traveling and frequently visits exciting places around the world. He currently works as a Registered Nurse in Pulmonary Specialty & OR at Kaiser Medical Center in Honolulu.
Piper Joubert

Last of the Dougherty grandkids (and certainly the most gregarious) is Piper. Shayla has always been inspired by Piper’s confidence and joyful approach to life. Her ability to live by the beat of her own drum is something that Shayla aspires to. Some of Shayla’s biggest full belly laughs have come in situations when Piper is close-at-hand (no coincidence). Though she is the youngest of the cousins, she has always been protective and loving beyond her years. Shayla is forever grateful for Piper’s friendship and always being the life of the party.
Tom Chang

Tom met Mike at college while they were attending the University of California, Irvine. Although they studied different subjects, they both shared a strong faith in God and became close friends through their campus ministry. Since college, Tom has visited Mike several times in Hawaii and enjoys the island lifestyle during his visits. When he is not working hard, Tom loves to travel, eat at great restaurants, and golf. Tom currently lives with his lovely wife April in New Jersey and works at a pharmaceutical company, Fresenius Kabi, as the Sales Ops Lead for Biosimilars.
Molly Walker

During the two minute turn-around at church in New York City, Shayla met Molly. They became fast friends and the two of them quickly realized that divine timing had brought them together that day. Their friendship turned into a sisterhood. Molly is the physical embodiment of what home feels like. Everyone around her is always welcomed and no one is a stranger. Their shared favorite quote “life begins where your comfort zone ends” is something they encourage each other in daily. Molly’s faith is the compass to her life in every season and Shayla is endlessly grateful for Molly's friendship.

Shain has been a strong friend and close Christian brother to Mike. They are grateful to each other for many things, but Mike is forever grateful to Shain for introducing him to the craft beer scene! They first met 10 years ago at their church in Hawai'i, and immediately discovered their shared interests of the financial markets, surfing, golf, and beer. They have many fun memories of their time in Hawaii, and they will always remember their crazy trip to Japan together! He currently lives in Thousand Oaks, California, with his beautiful wife Charmain and 2 lovely kids.

On the first day of Mrs. Merrit’s third grade class at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, Shayla met Shannon waiting in line for school to start. This was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Their mutual love for dance, Harry Potter, and musicals made them inseparable. Between dance classes, art camps, summer trips to Tahoe, musical rehearsal, and DWTS, Shannon has always been there for Shayla. Shannon is helpful, determined, and a fierce protector of those she loves and Shayla couldn’t be more honored to have Shannon by her side on her wedding day.
Andrew Shimasaki

As Mike's younger brother, Andrew can tell you a lot of stories about their time growing up together. While they were very mischievous and sometimes got into trouble, they also enjoyed their time playing video games and watching movies. During their childhood in Tokyo, they use to spend hours at arcades, theaters, and videogame stores. While in high school Andrew found his passion in art and studied graphic design at Parsons in New York. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Hawai'i and currently lives there as a full-time graphic artist with his pet beagle Max.
Maria Newman

One month apart, cousins Maria and Shayla grew up together and even shared their first sleepover together! Their mothers and grandmothers have instilled in them a love for baking, entertaining, and a passion for helping others! Maria, or affectionately nicknamed “Mimi” or “Mims”, has always supported Shayla through all of life’s highs and lows. Shayla is so honored to have Mimi as a bridesmaid and knows that their Grammies in heaven will be beaming down on them!
Brennan Takayama

Before meeting each other, Brennan and Mike were both studying at Stanford University during the same years in their respective graduate programs. As fate would have it, they would later meet each other on Oahu and become adult roomates! Brennan is from the Big Island in Hawai'i and currently serves as the InterVarsity regional director for the Pacific Region. In his free time he enjoys traveling, serving the local community, and spending time with his family and friends.
