Mikaila and Matt have known each other for a long time—about 13 years. Their story began when Matt was visiting his best friend Daniel Matheny's house and met Daniel's little sister Sam and her friend Mikaila, who were watching a movie. One thing led to another, and Mikaila convinced Matt to download Snapchat and add her as a friend. Little did they know, this would be the beginning of the rest of their lives. After meeting they went on a few dates and really did like each other. However, as it is when you are young, things happen. Mikaila moved to New York for college and Matt started his study abroad in Africa. Despite the distance, they kept in touch and remained friends for several years. Although the timing never seemed right, they both can agree that there was "always something special about the other person" something that always kept them in the back of their minds. Their paths crossed again when both found themselves living in California. In 2019, they met up for an official date and it all seemed to click. Although they were still little long distance for a year, Matt in SLO and Mikaila in Santa Monica, they made it work. Growing with every challenge they had to face. In 2020 they would move in together, making the most of COVID...which they did. Over the next few years, they focused on their careers—Matt in education technology and Mikaila in the entertainment industry. They grew in their relationship and faith, built strong friendships and community, and gradually prepared themselves for their future together. In 2020, they adopted their first fur baby, Charlie. Two years later, they got engaged on the stunning cliffs of Kauai, surrounded by friends and family. In 2023, they adopted their second fur baby, Isabell, which pushed them to buy their first home in Long Beach. Of course, the house had to have a full yard for their dogs to play in and a separated garage that Matt could start his ADU adventures (thank you to all the friends and family who have helped in that...life savers). Over the years, they've traveled extensively for both work and pleasure, visiting various states and countries and making an effort to see family and friends as much as possible. They truly embody the "work hard, play hard" philosophy—always on the move and always having fun. Now, they're ready for their next big adventure: marriage. They can't wait to bring everyone who is near and dear to their hearts to one of the most magical places in the world, and one of their favorite places, Kauai.
