There are many ways to get to Thirlestane. The simplest way is to drive from where you land while remembering that in the UK they drive on the left. Also, if you are arriving to EDI, we are planning coach hire to transport guests in one or two trips from Edinburgh down to Lauder. The drive is less than an hour from the airport. Additionally, you are welcome to utilize the local bus systems and we will do our best to meet you at your arrival point.
Most accommodations will offer a bed and breakfast rate standard or will provide a picnic basket of groceries for your use. We will be hosting a welcome party for dinner on Friday night, and the "Wedding Breakfast" (Dinner) to celebrate our first meal as a married couple. We are also hosting a brunch the day after the ceremony before departures. Likely the only meal you will need to plan for other than snacks is lunch before the ceremony.
While we would like the day of the ceremony to be more formal, please feel free to dress to impress. It's not every day you rent a castle. Be as bold as you dare. Wear a fascinator to the Garden Party! Opt for the velvet!
While it will be the middle of the summer in Scotland, often the weather does not exceed 80 degrees and sits in the 60s throughout the day. We recommend packing for spring weather in the US. Also remember that the sun will be up late that far north so the temperature will not drop substantially.
