John Wayne is the Orange County Airport with the SHORTEST travel time to San Clemente (25 minutes by car, but there's often traffic, so leave yourself some wiggle room). LAX and San Diego airport are alternative options for flights, however they are 1+ hours away from San Clemente (expect traffic).
