Michael and Betsy met the old fashion way, on a dating app. Being in the midst of a global pandemic, there were not a lot of options at the time for a first date. Betsy and Michael decided to go to Smale Park and walk around to talk and get to know each other. They ended up walking around the park (making multiple laps) for hours.

One of Michael and Betsy's favorite things to do is hike and explore National Parks, so it was only fitting that they got engaged on one of their hikes! Michael proposed to Betsy on a hike up to Artist Point, which is a secluded viewpoint of the famous "Tunnel View," which overlooks El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, and Half Dome. While hiking, Betsy noticed that there weren't any other footprints in the snow and the trail seemed "untouched" other than various paw prints. Betsy suggested to Michael that they should turn around to avoid being eaten by bears. To that Michael responded, "We need to keep going the view will be worth it!" As they hiked up into higher elevation, the snow on the ground built up to four feet tall. When they got to the top, no one else was around (shocker). Michael suggested taking a photo where the two would face away from the camera, looking at the view. When Betsy noticed Michael didn't come to sit next to her for the photo after turning on the camera timer, she turned around and saw Michael getting down on one knee!
