Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this amazing mansion and 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds, and lakes is a breathtaking gem. There are guided tours, and also exhibitions and events, so check out their website and calendar if you are going to be in the area!
The site of Daniel's proposal to Liz! One of our favorite places - a Gold Coast estate from the 1920s with all of its original acreage - 409, to be exact - full of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths, and outstanding plant collections. There is a beautiful main lawn that is perfect for a picnic, and a large oak tree under which Daniel proposed, nearby.
A place for a kick-axe time. If you've ever dreamed of trying your hand at axe-throwing, now is your chance!
The restaurant where we had brunch prior to the proposal. Beautiful inside and out. Food is delicious; right on a lake; you can't go wrong!
Classy and rowdy and delicious.
Liz grew up going to this beach. Let's be real - New York beaches are not California or Caribbean beaches, but to beat the heat and relax by the water, this still does the trick.
Arguably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places on Long Island, this original Guggenheim estate and 216-acre park overlook Long Island Sound. For history, beauty, and relaxation, you can't do better than this.
Travel back in time and take a walk in Daniel's shoes - back when he was a page at NBC giving tours of NBC Studios and 30 Rock. Did you know that the acceptance rate for becoming a page at NBC is 1.5% - which makes it more competitive than gaining admission to an Ivy League University?
This is Daniel's alma mater for journalism school, and he loves the classically beautiful campus. Also recommended is nearby Riverside Park!
Liz's old stomping grounds at New York University, where she attended college, are all around this park. She frequented the nearby Starbucks and sat by the fountain reading books. For her creative writing classes, she was tasked with writing poetry from phrases she heard while walking around the park. She dodged drug dealers walking through at night, and was rewarded by jumping into the fountain in her cap and gown on graduation day!
This no-frills pub was around the corner from Liz's old dorm (both her and her sister lived there freshman year - Weinstein). She spent lots of nights here drinking, laughing, and procrastinating.
Liz's alma mater - she spent countless hours studying at Bobst Library, in line at the registrar and bursar, in local cafes discussing philosophy and literature, and countless nights drinking vodka in the surrounding bars. It is truly special to have NYC as a campus!
A nice bar near the hospital where Liz works, a great place to grab some beer and cheese and cry until you laugh :)
If you want a jazz bar inside a beautiful hotel, minus ridiculous crowds, with an intimate, elegant atmosphere and great music, look no further than Cafe Carlyle. Order a drink and listen to the band. Woody Allen used to play there, too!
We spent an amazing afternoon walking the High Line and taking in the beautiful buildings and the artwork. It brings back such fond memories - and what is more NYC than turning an old rail line into a bustling park with art installations?
Daniel and his friends would frequent this bar after dodgeball. Daniel played every Saturday for years both before and after he met Liz. She would frequently hightail it to Queens for a yoga class, or just stay at his apartment and eat his food.
Outdoors, free, and with gorgeous views, this quintessential NYC activity can't be beat. Liz grew up in the five boroughs but it took Daniel to actually get her on the boat. July 4th, 2019 is a day we'll always remember fondly.
An obvious choice, but it's obvious and famous for a reason. This was one of the first indoor places Daniel and Liz went during the pandemic - once we could start doing things again but before the out-of-towners started coming back. Much less crowded, it was truly special to explore. The Egyptian section took them down memory lane and reminded them of their 2019 trip to Egypt.
Magical and off the beaten path, The Cloisters houses European medieval art and architecture. One of Liz's favorite places in the city.
Liz loves the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, so the outside of the Guggenheim alone is stunning and exciting. But the modern art inside is just as amazing.
Liz and Daniel order this every. single. Friday. We're basically keeping them in business. Chipotle Fridays consist of burrito bowls, TV, and lounging on the couch. There are very few exceptions.
Liz and Daniel walk or drive here frequently, looping around the trails or walking around the towers and the Unisphere. This park was the site of the 1964 World's Fair, for which the Unisphere was built. The New York State Pavilion Observation Towers are in a sad state of disarray, but the internet tells us they're being restored! They feature in "Men in Black," where they are (1997 spoilers!) disguised flying saucers. Queens is so great even aliens want to call it home!
A very famous Italian ice location which Daniel and Liz talk about going to every single summer but never actually go to. (Featured in the opening credits of "The King of Queens.")
The restaurant Liz went to with her family the day after her first date with Daniel, which was incidentally her mom's birthday! A delicious place with a beautiful outdoor space, it's one of her parents' favorite restaurants, and it was where the family celebrated Liz's high school graduation.
Liz's mom was an accompanist for many of the pre-performance ballet classes for American Ballet Theatre, and Liz grew up being dragged to these classes and watching the dancers warm up. She was probably taken to every show offered by ABT and New York City Ballet, and she despised her mom for that fact...until one day as a teenager she realized how much she loved the ballet! She also loves the snowflake-like chandeliers inside the Metropolitan Opera House, and of course the massive Chagall paintings facing the plaza.
