This is my favorite temple in India. It is so beautiful and colorful. It is in Raj's hometown and where we had our engagement photos. We plan to take guests there as a day trip a few days before the wedding. Let us know if you are interested :). If you are not available the day we go we can give you information on how to go by yourself :).
Brihadeeswara temple is located about an hour from Raj's hometown. We plan to take interested guests on a group trip here a few days before the wedding. We can also always help you go on your own :). It is one of the largest Hindu temples and an exemplar of Tamil architecture. It was Built by Chola emperor Rajaraja I between 1003 and 1010 CE, the temple is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Great Living Chola Temples", along with the hola-era Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple and Airavatesvara temple.
I know many of you may be interested in sights like the Taj Mahal. Unfortunately, the Taj Mahal is located in Northern India and Raj's hometown is located deep in the Southern part of India. But feel free to ask us for help visiting anything you would like to visit either before or after our wedding. There are many flights from Raj's hometown up to New Delhi or Agra. A popular tour is the Golden Triangle Tour and it would take you around New Delhi then to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and then to Jaipur-the pink city.
If you are interested in a more in depth tour of India, The Golden Temple is a site you may be interested in. The Golden Temple is a gurdwara located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the preeminent spiritual site of Sikhism.
Puducherry may be a place you would like to visit. It it a very beautiful former French colonial town near the beach. It is around a four hour drive from Raj's hometown or a short flight. Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.
