We are so excited to turn our favorite event of the year into our extended wedding reception!

Dragon Con Survival Guide

As our wedding will be at a restaurant adjacent to the convention, attending Dragon Con is completely optional to being a part of our big day. We would love it if you continued your stay in Atlanta to enjoy Dragon Con as our extended wedding reception. Dragon Con is a multi-fandom, fan-run convention that takes place over several hotels and buildings in downtown Atlanta. There are celebrity guest panels, workshops, cosplay meet-ups, contests, and parties. While we have attended several conventions, we agree that Dragon Con is the best party.

Here are our tips and tricks for making the most of your Dragon Con experience:

Be prepared to stand in line. The first line at Dragon Con is registration. The line to pick up your badge often wraps around the block. Disability Services does a great job making the con accessible for those who need additional support. Download the Dragon Con app. In August, the app will be updated. Take the Dragon Con walking tour for newbies. You will not be able to do everything. Pick out one day-time event and one evening event that you most want to do. Give yourself time. The crowds will increase as the weekend continues which will slow foot traffic. Lines to enter parties, contests, etc. start one hour before the scheduled event. You or a member of your party should have a bag containing water bottles, snacks, flats, hand sanitizer, a fan, and bandaids. Take the stairs. The elevators at the Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton go all the way to the top before coming back down. They are slow and over crowded. Pace yourself. Dragon Con is a marathon, not a sprint.

Optional Add-ons

Badge ribbons. Attendees will often hand out or exchange badge ribbons with other fans. We purchase ours from PC Nametags. Parade Viewing Party. If you want to watch the Dragon Con parade on Saturday morning, we suggest purchasing tickets for the viewing event at White Oak. It includes appetizers, mimosas, and bloody Mary’s. Aquarium Party. This is an additional party on Saturday night that always sells out. The VIP ticket includes an open bar and delicious food.

Hang out with us!

We want you to have the best possible Dragon Con experience, whatever that means for you. If you want to know where to find us, what we will be wearing, and how we will be maximizing our Dragon Con Experience, we will be creating a group chat for those planning to attend the con!
