We met at work, where our agencies were partners in rolling out the Affordable Care Act in Illinois. Lots of pizza slices eaten in conference rooms, fact sheets written, and ads keylined in that first year. We built a solid relationship as colleagues and friends that eventually grew into something bigger.
Matt proposed on the lakefront in September. Shannon had been at the opening weekend of her fellowship program with the Chicago Urban League and Matt had planned a dinner to celebrate at an urban farm on the south side of Chicago. He came up with a farse about tickets for a lake boat tour leaving from the Shedd and he popped the question as we turned the corner on the lakefront. Afterwards, we had a glass of champagne at a lakefront bar with Brian, went to the urban farm dinner, and then our friends surprised us at Parson's Chicken and Fish to celebrate the engagement (big shout out to Tori, Erica and Emsie for planning - sorry Shannon ruined it with find friends). He had the help of best man, photographer, Brian Weinberg, who had helped him scope a spot and was creeping along to capture the moment.
We're getting married across the street from our house at our favorite brewery and local room, Revolution Brewing. The beer and food are bomb, the vibes are even better. Rev was top of the list as we were thinking about venues to tie the knot. Fun fact: Matt also has hives on the roof that produce honey for Revolution's barrel-aged Honey Jacket.
