The town square in Freiburg is worth a visit all on its own, and wandering the streets nearby showcases the prettiest parts of town. You’ll find a farmer’s market filling the square on every morning except Sundays. Shops are also open every day except Sunday, if you’re looking to bring anything home with you! (Bonus points if during all that wandering around you find the two medieval towers/gates in Freiburg, one of which you’ll recognize by the McDonald’s housed within)
For those who want a good view of Freiburg, we recommend getting a beer at this Biergarten. For those who want more of a challenge, you can keep hiking past the Biergarten for even better views and a tower at the top.
If you’re looking for a day trip, or you just want to say you visited France, we recommend visiting Colmar, just over the Rhine river from Freiburg. Called the Venice of France, this beautiful town is worth walking through, stopping in a cafe along the way, and they have a great medieval art museum. Colmar is about 40 minutes from Freiburg by car, a bit longer if you’re brave enough for public transportation.
