Kalapaki Beach
This is our first stop after a long flight when a dip in the warm Hawaiian ocean is needed. Duke's is nearby for a drink as well after a day of travel.
JoJo's Shave Ice
What is Hawaii without shave ice? This is our favorite shave ice on the island and we recommend it with ice cream on the bottom and condensed milk on top!
Wailua River
Spend a day kayaking the Wailua River to a short hike and then a hidden waterfall. You can take the tour or just rent the kayak itself, although the company explains where to go for the waterfall and it is pretty easy to follow other people there without the tour. Overall, a great way to spend a full day near Kapa'a.
Lawa'i Beach
Some of the best snorkeling you'll find on the island in terms of being able to get close to fish and turtles. Great spot to watch the sunset as well, just be cautious of currents while swimming during this time of year.
Kalalau Trailhead
The best hike we've done on the island of Kauai. Located on the far northwest side, it has views of the Nāpali Coast that are worth the trek.
Waimea Canyon
Where parts of Jurassic Park were filmed and completely worth the drive if you have a car. Some great hikes as well, but none are easy as they have a lot of elevation gain/decline. If given the time, the very top of the road has a great lookout to pull up to that overlooks the entire canyon and ocean.
Lava Lava Beach Club
Great happy hour right on the beach!
Hanalei Bay
Beautiful bay for swimming and relaxing. Great snorkeling as well on the northeast side in front of Puu Poa beach.
Keālia Beach
Nice beach with easy parking. Usually has some waves for body surfing.
Wailua Falls
Good stop if you want to see a waterfall without a hike. Can get pretty crowded.
