How We Met

Matt and I met as intramural officials at Baylor University. We were out at the fields for flag football training and Matt noticed me because I was wearing a red beanie in 90° Texas weather. I noticed Matt because he was trying to put on his ACL brace incorrectly. I'm pretty sure my first words to him were, you're doing that wrong, let me do it. I would be lying if I said that was the only time I've said those words to him, but Matt has always been gracious and patient with me telling him how to do things. I found out later that Matt had worn that ACL brace for months and did not need my help but instead was using it to reel me in. I guess it worked!

Our First Date

Aurora and I had been spending more and more time together while at Baylor and we began to get to know each other better with each passing day. I had told her of my daring and courageous background of semi-professional alligator wrestling in the swamps of Louisiana - which she totally believed of course. I had asked her if she has ever eaten alligator before, and she then told me she had never really had Cajun food in general. Blasphemy, I know. But I later realized that this was a great opportunity! Soon after, I built up the courage to ask her on a date to try some fine Cajun cookin'. I vividly remember going over how I would ask her, and determining that it would be crucial for me to use the word "date" so there would be no confusion. And the plan went well! She happily accepted the date and we went to Friday's, a local restaurant known for its delicious, authentic Cajun food in a convenience store setting - very classy. The food and company was great and the date was a clear success. A week or so later, I ask her on a second date to a fancy steakhouse to show that I'm more than a hole-in-the-wall-cajun-convenience-store kind of guy. This date was going very well, until she made a comment about being a really fancy first date. I was immediately afraid that she had suffered some sort of head trauma in the last week - how could she forget such a memorable first date?! Well, apparently, she had no idea it was a date... I guess saying "Would you like to go on a date to this great Cajun place I know" was too ambiguous. To this day she refuses to acknowledge that I said the word "date", but that's okay - everyone is wrong occasionally!
