We met in January 2021, just a few weeks after Christine finally moved back to California. We were still living in a Covid world with limited options for in-person activities, when a fortuitous Hinge match lead to an awkward “get to you know you” over texts. (Matt may or may not have been left hanging for a few days due to a rigorous screening process from Christine’s friends and active social life.) Matt was eager to show off his favorite East Bay spots (and sports) and Christine was completely new to the neighborhood and ready to explore— the perfect match! Our first date was at Lake Merritt in Oakland, middle ground between our two apartments, and a place we still love. After a long, fully masked walk around the lake filled with lively conversation, the rest is history! We’ve had three years of date nights downtown trying new bars and restaurants, hilly hikes, cooking elaborate meals for family and friends, and lots of games of Monopoly Deal. We’ve travelled everywhere from Chicago, to Seattle, Mexico and Spain. Our shared values of civic responsibility, public service, and love for family, friends, and of course dogs, really cemented our relationship. We still live in Oakland and love exploring the neighborhood and nearby destinations with our little pup Cami, who keeps us on our toes. We’re excited to take this next step in our life together and are looking forward to celebrating with you!
