A few weeks before the engagement, Barrett had told Marley that they would be getting pictures taken with his family at Mount St. Francis; just in time for the leaves to turn colors. While she was immediately suspicious-- in the time they had been dating, never once had family pictures been taken-- she took his word that it was nothing bigger. Even once the day had arrived, Marley was calm and unsuspecting. As the couple arrived at Mount St. Francis, they began walking along a path to the supposed site of the family photos. Up the path was a candlelit picnic full of fresh fruit, wine, and flowers. Without a doubt, Marley knew it was for her. So did the elderly woman who stopped in the middle of the path ahead to take a picture of the picnic, saying to them both "Is this yours? It looks like a surprise engagement! How beautiful!" While Barrett's heart dropped, thinking the surprise was spoiled, Marley's heart soared. After he dropped to one knee and received a resounding "Yes!" both knew it was everything they could have dreamed of.
