It all began with LA, a love for sports, and wanting to make new friends. We separately decided to join a queer kickball league and played on separate teams. Over time, unexpectedly, regular friendly kickball games turned into flirtatious banter. Near the end of 2019, I decided to throw a party for friends from the kickball league. I was looking for a do-over from our high school proms. I made it a priority to make sure Shelby was attending this event on her own. Shelby finally gave in and decided to join in on the fun. Through the planning and logistics of the prom, the night was everything we wanted. There were many people there that night, but we kept finding excuses to talk to one another. Towards the end of the event, Shelby stayed a little later to offer help cleaning up. We hit it off and started talking continuously from then on.
