Liam was finishing up a year of travel with his final stop in Newport, RI to caddy at Newport Country Club with friends. I was also spending summer in Newport with friends, nannying after my first year as a teacher. The weekend of June 10th, my friends and I were celebrating a birthday in our apartment. We all heard noise from next door. Being curious (nosey) girls, we tried peeking through the gaps in the wood of our balcony hoping to catch a glimpse of the Irish lads our landlord had warned us about. We were not as stealthy as we thought and were quickly noticed. Since our cover was blown, we headed to the bar. At the bar, I noticed a tall guy ordering a drink. I continued to look (stare) until we made eye contact, waiting to see if he would make a move. A little while later, his wing man (now best man) came over and "accidentally" bumped into me. Liam and I talked the entire night, and at one point in our conversation, realized we were next door neighbors. When the end of summer approached we had to decide what to do. Liam was confident in our relationship and was determined to make it work. In this case, his stubbornness paid off. He postponed his flight until mid-October so we could spend time building our relationship. After he left, we decided to try long distance. Having never left the country before, the first step was to get me a passport. Soon after, I booked my first flight to Ireland for Christmas. We continued long distance for the better part of 4 years, flying between Ireland, Connecticut and London. In September of 2021, Liam transferred to New York with work and at long last, we were living on the same continent, Wohoo! In May 2022, Liam proposed in Newport, back where it all began. The rest is history.
