How We Met

May 2018

Makayla had just returned home from training with the Air Force in Texas and she applied at Bridgewood Event Rentals. When she went in to interview for the position, the first person she met was Jack, who worked at the company during the summer. Jack is Cindy Labuhn's son, who is an owner in the company and first interviewed Makayla. When Makayla left that interview, Jack quickly told his mom that they needed to hire her. This is where the ongoing joke of the two getting married and Jack's crush on Makayla circulated the office often. Granted, Jack would always be sure to take the long way through the office to pass by her desk. Life took them both in separate ways, Jack pursing his career with Gresham Police Department and Makayla moving to Oahu with the Air Force. When Makayla returned and found her way back to Bridgewood, Jack had still not lost his interest in her. They rekindled their friendship in May of 2021 when a spontaneous trip took them both, and now maid-of-honor Bella to Arizona. With friendship turning into a new, uncharted feeling, they confessed their feelings for one another over chips and guacamole at Sandoval's in Beaverton and never left each others side after that.

Our Engagement

March 2022

At their very first date at Sandoval's in Beaverton, both Makayla and Jack identified that this was a relationship for the long haul, neither wanted just a fling and both felt that this was "it". A few months into dating they both found a love for wine tasting and spending time together over a glass of vino and beautiful views. Amaterra was a brand new winery opening right up the road from Sandoval's and Jack knew it was the place to ask for Makayla's hand in marriage. Jack orchestrated the perfect surprise proposal set as a "client meeting" for Makayla to attend on a Friday evening. He even did so much as to have the venue manager personally email Makayla so she would not pick up on the surprise that awaited her. Makayla was greeted by her dad at the venue who walked Makayla to meet Jack. This moment between Makayla and her dad is one they both will never forget and Makayla cherishes most. Jack had their favorite country music playing and lead her down a candlelit path with "Will You Marry Me?" at the end... to this day Makayla will tell you it was the easiest YES of her life!
