We met the same way that most people nowadays, Tinder in late August of 2022! However, the funniest part of how we met was definitely the fact that Austin actually thought that my profile was a fake profile. He swiped right out of hope that it wasn't (actually he Super Liked me) and we matched the same night. We messaged each other for days before working up the courage to facetime each other. Conversations were never hard for us and we talked for hours. After about a month of talking to each other and facetiming every once in a while, I (Makayla) decided that I just HAD to meet this incredible guy. So, on September 24, 2022, I was driving through the area that he had told me he lived and spontaneously called and asked him if he would like to finally meet up. He said yes and we chose to meet at East Coast Wings at the Charlotte Premium Outlets for drinks. We hit it off instantly and have basically been inseparable ever since.
The proposal started like any ordinary day. Austin's step-mother, Deneen was visiting from Florida and we spent most of the morning talking and watching Suits. Austin called me from work later in the afternoon and asked if I wanted to go out to dinner, since Deneen was in town, to which I said "of course." Austin had been acting strange, but I chalked it up to him being stressed. When he got home, we all got ready and then we, with his mom Heather, Deneen, and my son Brentley, went to (you guessed it) East Coast Wings for dinner. On the way to the restaurant, Austin played one of our favorite songs, "Boyfriend" by Hardy, which basically says, "I don't want to be your boyfriend anymore." We listen to that song a lot, so I didn't really think much of it. When we arrived, Austin began telling his mom and step-mom that that was where we had first met and he even remembered exactly where he parked from the day we met and parked in that exact spot. We began walking in and he said to me, "Isn't it crazy how far we have come since we first met?" grabbed my hand, and hit one knee and asked me to marry him. I was jumping up and down, screaming YES a million times, and we were engaged! It was truly a special moment.
