From the US, Africa and western Europe, we recommend booking flights to either Split, Dubrovnik or Sarajevo. Each are ~2-2.5 hours drive from Mostar. Our suggestion would be landing in one place and taking off from another - they are equal distance and that way you get to explore at least two more towns! We strongly recommend booking a car transport (link at Travel section). The roads are very curvy and there are no automatics - driving in the area is hard! The car transport will be in the ~$100-150 area one way (depending on city given borders and demand). We are also happy to help coordinate closer to the wedding for car sharing options.
While there are plenty of wonderful options in Mostar, if possible we would encourage you to stay at one of the options suggested (in Travel section). Mostar is fairly small but being in similar locations will be greatly beneficial and ease the process of getting to / from events. We have tried to arrange for a variety of prices and types of accomodations. That said, if you would like to explore other options please let us know. We would love to help! We know the city quite well and will be easy to provide guidance on the specific location, distance to events etc.
Most of Europe is fairly easy to access from the Split, Dubrovnik and Sarajevo airports so your optinos are really plentyful. That said, we also really love Sarajevo (capital of Bosnia) as well as the Croatian coast - Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar, Brac, Korcula are all magnificent options. Wonderful day trips are Blagaj, Pocitelj, Medjugorje easy access in less than 1 hour from town. All of these locations are also very easily available by car or bus from Mostar. Additionally, if you are staying (not day trips), they all don't require you to have a car. Visit the Things to Do section for more details. If you have specific questions on the locations please let us know. We'd love to talk about your pre/post wedding plans and make the stay in the region as fun as possible!
It is lovely to warm weather in August. Days should be in the low to mid 80s while nights should go to the mid 60s.
It is a fairly small town with lots of cute, small streets. Google maps should serve you well though can get confused from time to time on the side roads. If that happens, just stop and ask! Most people speak English and will be able to point you in the right direction. Most of the city is walkable by foot and we highly recommend walking around. Taxis are very cheap (few dollars anywhere in the city) and are easy to get. For the wedding events, we will provide transport for events not in town center.
Most of your meals will be part of the wedding - lucky us!! That said, if you want to explore Sunday during the day, before the ceremony, we recommend going to either Sadrvan and Han (traditional Bosnian food with view of the Old Bridge) or Del Rio, Marinero, Meggy are also very good (for lighter / western options).
We would encourage you to arrive on a flight no later than Saturday morning to Split/Dubrovnik/Sarajevo. This will give yo sufficient time to get to Mostar and get ready for the Welcome Drinks in Old Town which will be kicking off Saturday at 6pm.
Our recommendation is to leave the morning of August 23rd. We plan for the Celebration of Love party to go pretty late (European wedding style!). With most flights leaving from Split/Dubrovnik/Sarajevo very early morning (6am to noon time frame), we sincerely hope that you will not cut it short and stay for the full Celebration of Love on Sunday, August 21st, and join us for the day at the pool on Monday, August 22nd! It will be an easy and relaxing time post the party to recover. It should give you sufficient time to then make it for early morning flights the day after, August 23rd, in good shape. An extra day in the European sun never hurt anyone, right?! So if you plan to take flights out of Split/Dubrovnik/Sarajevo, planning for the morning flights on August 23rd would be perfect. Or you can just stay and continue enjoying Mostar! My parents will be thrilled to have guests longer. We will be leaving on a flight on August 23rd to a location TBD.
Really good! You should not have any issues remoting in or using VPN. Strong internet is available and is complenetary in most places across the region. Majla has been working remotely from Bosnia many years and never experienced any issues.
No - you do not. Mostar is a relatively small town and you do not need a car while there. All other towns in the area also do not require cars once you are there. While a personal choice, we would recommend booking transport from place to place vs. renting a car. Also, most cars are manual which makes driving on tiny, curvy roads extra hard. With roads that are small, confusing, google maps sometimes gets it wrong and you won't get to enjoy the drive if you are actually driving!
Very yummy food! That said, it is also on the heavier side. Expect lots of pies (cheese, meat, spinach), lots of meat, lots of bread - in summary, three days of enjoyment of pure deliciousness :) If you are vegeterian, cheese pies, potatoes and salads (with lots of cheese again!) will be staples for you.
