How we met...

One time, Layne saved Maggie from a pack of hungry Lionesses out on their evening hunt, cubs in tow! (Layne may have had an assist of his two, strapping older brothers as well as younger, Land-Cruiser-driving sister to the rescue). But as a good a story as the 'Lion Camp' story is, that is not actually how they met. Layne & Maggie met on a sunny spring day at a vineyard in the heart of Middleburg Hunt Country. They shared wine, traveling adventure stories, talk of family & friends, shared an interest in tick-killing insecticides, as well as football. After a lovely day among the vines, they ALMOST had a falling out regarding their particular football teams & the infamous Black Diamond Trophy. However, they agreed to disagree on football politics – and they did AGREE on their distaste for all things UVA related. A bonding moment, for sure.

The Proposal

June 25, 2020

In a gloomy year around the world, 2020 will forever hold a bright spot in our lives. Friends found a beach house in Hatteras for the week and planned a lil mini vaca with our ‘quarentine bubble family.' There is just something about the ocean’s salty waters, blue skies and sunkissed sand that slows down everything about everyday life. M + L treasure time spent at the beach for this very reason. However, on this day, it was particularly wet & gloomy. Stuck inside, they played Charades, drank rose, laughed, sang, danced and high-fived while genuinely enjoying each other’s company. As the clouds began to part, it was decided that they should pull themselves together for some photographs on the beach since the clouds would create perfectly diffused evening light. AND DID THEY EVER! It was in a wonderful, clear sky moment that Layne got down on one knee, ocean crashing behind him, and Maggie answered the easiest question of her life! YES, of course!!! So much love, photos, champagne, and a toast! Facetime calls to family. Beach celebrations. It was a glorious rainy day, indeed. ❤️

Our First Home

Since wedding planning during a pandemic is nonexistant, we decided to take on an entire house renovation for our first home in 2020. We absolutely love our neighborhood and our lot - now time to bring our 1970’s house up-to-date! Thanks to tireless help from both our families and friends, doing the dirtiest jobs, we moved into a **mostly** renovated home in Nov 2020. We still have two bathrooms to finish, mudroom updates to complete, hopefully a dreamy covered back porch one day, and a-million-and-one mini tasks. We appreciate all your love and support as we have forged our way through our first (hopefully the last) total home renovation.
