This is your typical high school sweetheart story... the football player and the cheerleader, well... dancer! Cameron had just made the playoffs and Maggie was excited that she would get to perform at one more halftime game. As part of Charger Dancer tradition, the dance team would wear a football player's jersey for playoffs. Maggie's dance friends suggested she ask Cameron knowing that the two were interested in one another. Maggie worked up the confidence to message him on Facebook (when that was still a thing!) and ask if she could wear his jersey. She still has the messages! After a few months of sharing glances in gym class and "talking" during Leadership class, Cameron officially asked Maggie out when the ball dropped on New Years Eve, 1/1/11.
Many high school dances and dates watching Food Network on their parents' couches later, Cameron went off to college for his freshman year at Virginia Tech while Maggie finished her senior year at Chantilly HS. She still wore a Gibson jersey during playoffs even though Cameron had graduated! Maggie soon joined Cameron at Tech where they enjoyed exploring Blacksburg, beginning their cooking endeavors in tiny college kitchens, and growing closer as a couple. After Cameron graduated in 2016, the two had to be apart for another year but spent many weekends trekking back and forth down I-81 to visit each other. In 2017, Maggie graduated and they welcomed a new furry member to their family, Thelma (you'll see her featured prominently on the big day!) Like most 20-somethings from NoVA, they then moved to Arlington to begin the next chapter of their lives together.
Maggie and Cameron planned a three-part trip starting in Chicago and making their way to the West Coast once COVID restrictions began easing up in 2021. Within mere hours of landing in Chicago, they headed to what Maggie thought was a nice brunch at the LondonHouse to kick off their trip. Cameron insisted the reservation said they had to dress nicely so they went shopping before leaving for the trip (that should have been the first sign for Maggie that something was up!) After stepping off the elevator onto the rooftop, it quickly became clear to Maggie that Cameron had something special planned. After 10 years of dating, Maggie knew it was only a matter of time, but it was a total surprise when he got down on one knee. Both families even flew out to surprise Maggie and share in the excitement! It was an amazing weekend celebrating with family in one of our new favorite cities.
