Pintxos, pintxos, pintxos!! San Sebastian is our favorite place on Earth. It is a slice of heaven in northern Spain that is well worth the extended trip if you can make it. Not only does it have breathtaking landscape and ocean-front, it is known as having the second most Michelin rated restaurants per-capita in the world, only behind Kyoto, Japan. We're not talking about a normal dining experience either, Old Town in San Sebastian is like Diagon Alley, small and has tons of energy til late at night. The alley is packed with energy, people stopping into bars for a pint and pintxos and often spilling into the streets.
Toledo is a great day trip from Madrid that is just 30 minutes away by train. Toledo is known as an amazingly beautiful city full of medieval history.
Oh, Biarritz! Biarritz is where we got engaged. It is a beautiful French coastal town just outside of Spain (San Sebastian and Bilbao) that is known around the world for being one of the top surfing destinations. You will hear French, Spanish and English being spoken everywhere in the city. Biarritz has many amazing bistros and markets that are well worth the trip from Madrid.
