Burgundy is well known by foodies and wine lovers for being the second region after Paris for Michelin star restaurants. Nearby to the Chateau, the larger historic towns are Beaune (which is the most touristy area in Burgundy with plenty of sightseeing & local markets), Chalon sur Saone, Dole and Dijon (the birthplace of Dijon mustard!). We will be doing a group day trip to Beaune on Friday from noon to 5pm if you'd like to come explore with us. There are dozens of nice villages and historic buildings to visit in addition to these big cities – Meursault, Savigny les Beaune, Pernand Vergelesse, and Rochepot, to name a few. The nearest towns worth visiting are Pierre de Bresse (17th century castle and museum) and Seurre (medieval city center and big river sport complex).
Burgundy wines are famous and often listed as the best wines in the world due to the suitable land to grow grapes being very limited hence local wine producers must focus on top quality rather than increasing their volumes. You can easily drive from the Chateau to many famous wineries. Except for big cellars, most cellars will be open by appointment only and will seldom speak English. The Chateau can recommend several trustworthy English-speaking guides who can arrange custom wine tours. This will allow you access to confidential cellars who have a small production which is not exported out of the region. Most convenient would be to do wine tasting in Beaune; there will be plenty of time to do so there at a variety of cellars on our day trip on Friday!
