Basics for June on the Georgia Coast: sunglasses, hat, sunblock, sandals, and a peaceful easy feeling in your soul. Given the forecast, an UMBRELLA might be handy! You can also get snacks, drinks, insect repellent, sundries, plastic buckets & shovels, etc. at the mini-mart or in the little shopping center on the island. Lightweight long sleeve shirt & pants are very handy, because the sand gnats and mosquitoes do tend to come out when the air is still. We'll have plenty of bug spray on hand, too. Bugbite stuff and aloe gel are also available in shops if the little buggers getcha. If you have a COOLER we can use, please text Lizzie (352-262-3378).
The wedding and reception are beach casual attire, meaning button down short sleeve shirts (the more colors the better!), sundresses, and the like. Since the wedding is on the beach, sandals or slip-off shoes are recommended for ease of walking. For other events, it's just summer vacation attire -- whatever you feel like wearing. We recommend carrying lightweight garments that can cover arms and legs in case there are sand gnats, which do nip!
Feel free to come over to Party Central condos to say hi, and pick up a welcome bag (containing the ever-important gnat spray and a little guide booklet). Check-in for rooms is 4pm, and may be even later because the whole island's got covid-related staff shortages. So relax, come mingle, go for a stroll, whatever suits your fancy.
Dinner on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday lunch are catered. For the other meals, we recommend grabbing some food supplies AND/OR foraging at Party Central. PARTY CENTRAL CONDO (C-160) will have some breakfast basics, sandwich fixins, snacks, and refreshments waiting for you! People will be there pretty much all the time, so just stop by and help yourself. JEKYLL MARKET has full groceries, a bakery, coffeeshop, deli, plenty of ready-to-eat options, gift stuff, and much more -- all in one spot. Most convenient, well-rounded place to GET WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE WEEKEND. There's also a WINN-DIXIE grocery store at I-95 & Exit 29 (en route for most people). MORE NEARBY GRAB & GO FOOD OPTIONS: * Gift shop at the condos has snacks & some sandwiches. * DQ and the gas station mini-mart are handy. * Bait shop @ the Clam Creek fishing pier has ice cream bars & snacks, too. For lunch, we like getting grab-n-go food for picnics, or going places with good vibe, value, and turnaround time. (Note: restaurants on Jekyll can be s...l...o...w...) OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS: Tortuga Jack's - close to Villas, good food, outdoor seating and bar on dunes. The Pantry - on the back of the Jekyll Island Hotel. Fine sandwich shop. Zachry's Riverhouse - Seafood sandwiches, burgers, amazing fried oysters. Small, out of the way place. We haven't been to many other Jekyll restaurants. I'm sure many are good!
The most valuable gifts we cherish from our friends and loved ones are the unique new perspectives we learn, the treasured memories shared, and the connections that grow deeper through them. Thus, as gifts, we would be honored if you would share with us one of your favorite music albums, books, movies, or old photos. Whether physical or digital, we're really excited about this idea! It'll be so wonderful to continue connecting with our friends, and with each other, through the ideas, sounds, images and stories shared. Plus we plan on doing a lot of roaming together, so it will be very special to take a little of you along with us as we visit life's roads, trails, and scenic havens.
Yes please! We will be on Jekyll Island from Thursday till Tuesday. We welcome friends to add on a few days if you can, and enjoy a little more of the island and surrounding area with us.
