Lizzie and Nate spent the first six months with their backs to each other in a large open-office space at a content marketing company. Their story went slowly from there: chatting at the office summer outing and joining the after-work bocce league. Nate used an excel spreadsheet on his phone to keep score and Lizzie thought that was nerdy and cute. The chemistry was there, but the timing wasn’t quite right. Lizzie eventually got a new job at an office a few blocks over, and for the next three years they met every couple of months to have lunch together and go on walks in the middle of the work day. Finally, when they both were single, Nate invited Lizzie to his friend’s Victorian-themed wedding. Lizzie spent the weeks leading up to the event wondering what his intentions were, and talking to all of her friends about it; Nate fended off questions from his friends and family. Was this a date? OK, it was a date! In the five years that followed we’ve fallen into a good routine. Lots of simple daily things – making dinner together and compiling weekly grocery lists and reading books on the couch that our cat has scratched all of the threads out. Thanks to Nate, Lizzie has watched the first two Star Wars movies. Thanks to Lizzie, Nate has attended nine Lake Street Dive concerts. We are grateful for each other and all of the people we’ve gotten to meet and know throughout the time of our relationship – and we’re excited to bring everyone together at our/(Lizzie’s) favorite place the first weekend of June. Thank you for being there for us throughout the years, and for making the trip, physically or in spirit, to see us step into our married life together. We hope the day will be one that we treasure and look back on.
