We LOVE Whaley's! We try to make it there for dinner at least once per visit! The place has a unique history as an old convenience store (gas station), turned Restaurant, which is owned and operated by the Whaley family. They have classic seafood options & also serve plates for non-seafood eaters too. It's a great place to grab drinks, or share a casual dinner with friends! Tip: Get there before 6:00, and you're more likely to get a seat!
Lindsey and I love golf, and the course at Edisto is stunning! The last time we played we saw tons of wildlife, to include turtles, alligators, bald eagles, & deer. They also have new high-tech carts fully equipped with electronic scoring and hole information! Don't miss your chance, if you're a golfer.
Ironically, NOT on the Waterfront, the Waterfront Restaurant is open for dinner most days of the week! The menu, while versatile, is quite heavier on the seafood side (not Lisa's fav) BUT their hushpuppies are to die for. As a side note, the last time we ate at the Waterfront, was about 30 minutes before Lindsey proposed!
If you're a nature lover, you'll definitely want to visit Botany Bay Heritage Preserve. Edisto Island's "Boneyard Beach" is beautiful and also one of the best places on the Island to take pictures! A few things to keep in mind: Go at Low Tide! High tide at Botany Bay makes it difficult to see all the beautiful shells and trees. It's a bit of a walk (.5 mi) to the beach, so make sure you bring comfy shoes (this is an easy walk).
Across from the Waterfront Restaurant on Jungle Road, is a small little place with a HUGE wrap-around deck, called the SeaCow Eatery. They are open for an early dinner, but this is a really good breakfast/lunch spot if you're out and about exploring in the middle of the day (this is typically prime beach time for us, so we usually miss it). The SeaCow serves lots of southern sandwiches, and of course, some seafood platters for lunch. There are also some cute little shops nearby if you're looking for some beachy keepsakes.
If you're looking for a dinner place with a view, Coot's Bar & Grill is where you'll find it. It's hard to miss, as it is the only pier/ocean view Restaurant on the Island. This one actually IS on the waterfront (right across from BI-LO). The most recent google reviews rave about their pizza, burgers, and fries. They also have some pretty funny Merch! (when you see it, you'll know).
We've only eaten here once, as this place is relatively new. But the place is always packed! Lindsey got the seafood platter, and I got some of the most delicious BBQ I've ever had. It's further away from the beachfront, but only about a 5 minute drive out.
