How We Met

Dancing Through Life

Tom and Lauren’s story begins at a line dance bar they both frequently visited for dancing. The two were in different friend groups so they had not talked to one another, or even danced together. One day while Lauren was still in pharmacy school she tried to quickly purchase tickets to a Tim McGraw concert before an early morning quiz. Right after the quiz she realized that the tickets were for the wrong venue, but decided to go anyway. It just so happened that this early morning mishap led her to Tom where he frequently went for concerts and his infamous tailgate party, where their paths would finally cross. Before the concert, Lauren was invited to stop by where Tom and his friends were gathered, allowing the two to formally meet and talk. They later discussed what sections they were sitting in for the show, as they were hoping to continue talking. Tom then asked their mutual friend Jason, the Best Man, if he could find a way to sneak Lauren into the pit area in front of the stage so they could all be together. As Jason always does for his friends, he found a way to make it happen. This initial meeting was the door opening to the beginning of their relationship. They started to spend more time together while dancing two to three days a week and their friend groups became one in the same. Tom started to teach Lauren how to Two Step and West Coast Swing and it was obvious something special was happening.

Our First Date

A Game of Catch, April 2016

Lauren and Tom’s relationship grew organically over time and the two consider different moments to be their first date. For Lauren it was one Monday after class when she wanted to get outside to relax by playing catch like she did growing up. She casually mentioned this to Tom when they were talking on the phone and he offered to visit so they could. Lauren couldn’t believe he offered to do this considering Tom lived 2 hours away and tried to talk him out of it. Tom still insisted and said he didn’t mind at all, even though he failed to mention not having a glove to play with. By the time he got to Lauren’s after stopping to buy a softball glove it was getting dark, but the two were able to find a spot to play under the street lights. After playing catch, they went out for dinner and this is how this perfect romance got started. The following Saturday is what Tom considers to be their first date because it was the first time he asked Lauren out. Tom had an extra ticket to a Jason Aldean concert and asked her to join him and his friends for the evening. It was at this concert that Lauren and Tom shared their first kiss and for that reason the couple has made it their anniversary date ever since.

The Proposal

December 31, 2019

Tom knew exactly where and when he wanted to propose. He knew it had to be at the place they met and on the day they shared their first slow dance, New Year’s Eve. It was during that dance that the couple first had a “more than friends” feeling. A plan was put in motion with the help of Chris, a groomsman, who is co-owner of the line dancing bar where they had first met. Tom asked Lauren to take a ride to Rascals with him on New Years Eve so Tom and Chris could talk real estate advice about the business for the upcoming year. Upon arriving Chris told Tom to stall because things were not going as smoothly as planned, the building fire alarm had been tripped and they had lost power. Already being excited to ask the girl of his dreams to marry him, Tom was even more nervous by this turn of events. Finally Chris gave Tom the all clear text and they headed into the building to see the owners and hang out. Lauren was surprised to find a dimly lit dance floor with a table in the middle topped with flowers and a candle, while Tim McGraw’s song “My Best Friend” played over the speakers. She stopped at the sight and asked “What’s going on?” to which Tom took her hand and said, “Please come with me.” He led her onto the dance floor like so many times before, but this time it wasn’t to dance. Tom recited a beautiful speech touching on all the moments they shared since their first dance that ended with “Will you marry me?” and Lauren said “Yes!”
