Our story is a "tale of two cities". In Atlanta, Karen heard about Laura from her friend Wendy Johnson who told her she had met Laura while in Charleston visiting Betty and Alice, mutual friends of Wendy and Laura. Meanwhile, in Charleston, Lisa Goodlett had conspired to get Laura to go to an event to meet Wendy so she could make a connection to Karen. After that event, Laura mustered up the courage to text Karen and we agreed to meet when Karen would be at Seabrook the following week. The night we arranged to meet, we both almost canceled because it was pouring down rain. We also didn't start off well because the restaurant we went to was hosting a Sunday night football game and we could hardly hear each other over the cheers of the Pittsburgh Steelers fans in attendance. Undeterred, we decided to try a small coffee shop around the corner in hopes that we could hear each other and have a better time. We spent two hours over coffee. One of us left really smitten by the other while one of us took about another 24 hours to be won over. We started texting and laughing that night and we haven't stopped laughing and loving each other since. We are grateful for the friends who led us to each other and excited for the journey ahead.
Again a "tale of two cities". In Atlanta, Karen was planning to surprise Laura with a proposal and planned to visit Charleston on Valentine's Day of 2022. Karen planned a walk on the beach as a way of celebrating Valentine's Day. Meanwhile, in Charleston, Laura had tucked a ring into her pocket planning to propose that same day. People always ask, who proposed? Well, we both did, at the very same time! Neither one of us knew what the other was planning and neither one of us hesitated to say yes when the question was asked.
