Question

What is LaLa Park like?

Answer

Our hill country venue is on ten acres with two big oak-shaded lawns, a dry creek bed, and lots of good nooks for camping in. Colorful murals abound, and prayer flags grace the built-in stage and the space that will serve as our outdoor kitchen & serving area. There's a ping-pong table & lawn games, and even an apiary (but please don't mess with the bees!). We'll be staying with family in the main house. It's a beautiful place with very cool owners who are really letting us treat the place as our own for the weekend. For more info, check out https://www.lalaparktexas.com/

Question

How do I get there?

Answer

LaLa Park sits between the towns of San Marcos and Wimberley, less than an hour from both Austin and San Antonio. We recommend flying into Austin, as we will be helping to arrange carpools and shuttles from Austin/the airport to the venue on Thursday & Friday. Please let us know if you will need help finding a ride. In case we are unable to find rides for everyone, a ride share from the Austin airport to San Marcos is about $55. Parking at the venue is very limited and we'll need to prioritize spots for performing musicians, wedding party, and vendors, so we'll be organizing shuttles and carpools to get guests to & from nearby accommodations in Wimberley and San Marcos as much as possible throughout the weekend. Ride share services are also available in the area. We request that local friends carpool as much as possible—please let us know if you can offer a ride.

Question

Where should I sleep?

Answer

We will be staying with family in the house on-site, and we'd love for those who enjoy camping at festivals to join us for the full experience. Beyond the main lawns, there is a path with good nooks for tents leading to a larger cleared area at the back of the property. We anticipate that a lot of people will want to camp out, so we ask that you stick to a smaller tent footprint to ensure there is room for everyone. Camping spots will be first come first pick, so we encourage campers to come out early! Of course, if camping out is not your jam, there are many other accommodation options in the surrounding area and the nearby towns of San Marcos and Wimberley. See the Travel & Sleeping tab for some ideas.

Question

What is the bathroom situation?

Answer

The house is on a septic tank, so we have to limit use of the indoor bathrooms to family and anyone needing an accessible restroom. We will have a luxury restroom trailer and lots of supplies like spray deodorant, wipes, & dry shampoo. We plan to set up a makeshift shower for campers to rinse with a hose. It will be rustic and similar to what you'd experience at a real camping music festival, so those who prefer a full daily shower will likely be happier staying off-site.

Question

What if I need camping gear?

Answer

You can bring your own camping gear, or rent what you need—see the Travel & Sleeping page for recommendations. We have a few things we can lend out ourselves, and can also organize a visit to Academy Sports & Outdoors for anyone who wants to make last-minute gear purchases for the weekend.

Question

Can I bring an RV or camper?

Answer

There is very limited space available for parking, so we likely won't have room for RVs or camper vans. If you want to car camp and sleep in your vehicle, that should be fine. Just let us know so we make sure to have a good spot for you to park.

Question

What about food?

Answer

We will have snacks and simple meals available throughout the weekend. A slightly more formal dinner catered by Ranch Hand will follow the ceremony on Friday, and Sunday brunch will be catered by River City Catering. On Saturday, we'll fire up the grills for some Texas bbq, burgers & sausages of all kinds. Please let us know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions so we are sure to have something for everyone. You are welcome to bring your own camp-friendly food, but refrigerated space will not be available unless needed for medical/dietary reasons. We will have ice available for coolers, and will be able to organize a grocery run for anyone who needs to restock. Delivery services are also available in the area. There are two breweries serving food within walking distance—Roughhouse Brewing (0.3 mile) and the EZ Eats food truck at Middleton Brewing (1 mile). See the Things to Do page for links to the breweries & their menus.

Question

Can I BYOB?

Answer

Yes, you can BYOB! We will have a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available, including kegs of local beer & cider, wine, and some signature premade cocktails. If there's something specific you like to drink, feel free to bring it with you and stash it in a cooler marked with your name, or to share. Beverages are also available to-go from both of the breweries within walking distance.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

We picked this time of year to have the best chance of sunny weather in the 70's during the day and 50/60's at night... but anything can happen in central Texas. While we do plan to have a large tent covering one lawn, the entire event will be outdoors, so everyone—especially those camping out—should come prepared for anything! There is a chance we could get strong spring thunderstorms, or that summer could come early and temperatures could be in the 80's or even 90's. If either of these extremes seem likely as the dates approach, we'll do our best to provide extra party favors (i.e. ponchos or fans) accordingly, but we encourage you to both keep an eye on the weather forecast and expect the unexpected as you pack.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Wear whatever will make you feel comfortable and happy throughout the weekend, whether that's a formal gown, fairy costume, camping gear, or festival garb. We certainly encourage colorful, fun and fantastical outfits, but there are no specific dress codes for any of the weekend's events. Practical shoes are recommended.

Question

Who will be performing?

Answer

The lineup is made up of people we love as both musicians and friends—and of course we'll be making appearances ourselves as well! The music will cover a broad range of styles and we hope you come ready to find some new favorites. There will also be several jam sessions and open mic/karaoke hours where anyone is welcome to play or to give a "toast" in the form of a song, speech, or performance. Sip Sip - Big Bill - Mother Falcon - Trunk - Sometimes a Legend/Bowman Maze - The Watters - Allisen & the Wy's Guys - Diana Burgess & Curtis McMurtry - Batty jr - Chase Weinacht - guesthouse - plus a few surprises!

Question

Can I bring a +1?

Answer

While we didn't automatically include plus ones for everyone, we did our best to include any partners & family we were aware of. By entering your name into the RSVP page, you can see who is included on your invitation. If there's anyone we missed who you'd like to bring with you, please let us know!

Question

What does LaLaurPearlooza mean?

Answer

We struggled to think of a name for our festival, but finally settled on 'LaLaurPearlooza' (thank you, Sabine!) after realizing we could incorporate parts of our names (Laur, and Sterl "the Pearl") while also getting the music festival part across. We are not affiliated with and have never been to Lollapalooza.

Question

Is there anywhere to swim?

Answer

The venue has an overground pool (maximum capacity 20 people) & hot tub (6 people), but we have been asked to limit use to certain hours. We can swim freely on Thursday & Sunday, but only after 10pm on Friday & Saturday. Some popular swimming holes nearby will not be open for the season yet, but with several rivers in the area there are still many good places to swim!
