On one cool Thursday Pittsburgh night in spring of 2012, Mike was mopping up the ever so clean fraternity dance floor getting ready for the party that started in three hours when suddenly the door flung open and the party was about to start early. Kristen and two other friends decided they couldn’t wait to start the night. Little did Kristen and Mike know that that was the start of the rest of their lives (even though Kristen gave Mike the wrong number later in the night). Throughout the college years we kept growing closer and closer until in the fall of 2014 Mike declared “I like being your boyfriend”- a status Kristen was not aware of. There were daylongs at 310, date parties, study sessions together during finals even though neither of us understood what the other was studying, dancing on the Cathedral lawn at 2 am, snowboard trips, and nonstop laughter. When graduation came, we were eager to continue our relationship together, even if it meant spending the next three years apart- Mike working in Boston, Kristen remaining in Pittsburgh to receive her doctorate in Physical Therapy. We spent countless late nights on the phone wishing we could be together and visiting as frequently as we could (except Cleveland). When graduation came we had to make a choice. Move together to Philly where Kristen’s from or move to Boston. We decided to meet in the middle landing in Houston, Texas (we’re not so great at geography...). The Houston experience has been the best decision of our relationship. We have seen each other grow as individuals while simultaneously growing and supporting our love for one another to levels we never imagined. It’s where we found a love for fostering dogs, rodeos, Wii bowling and ring toss, and spending weeks on end seeing no one but each other and the liquor store clerk (thanks March 2020…). Here we are now, 10 years later, ready to start the next chapter of our awesome lives.
