Travel Note

Asbury Park

Asbury Park was the historic stomping grounds for musical greats from Springsteen to Sinatra, and a New Jersey cultural touchstone now in the midst of a renaissance. Asbury is a vibrant beach town, with some of the best music venues and restaurants around. Asbury is a changing neighborhood, and we want to make sure all of our guests can stay close to the beach (and close to the reception venue!), so we recommend staying in homes and apartments east of Main Street.

Ocean Grove

Ocean Grove, the town immediately to the south of Asbury, is where the Morriss’ house is. It’s a historic town with beautifully kept homes, as well as many beach front hotels and b&bs. Don’t let the religious trappings fool you, this is the “wettest ‘dry’ town,” in the state. It’s hard to go wrong in Ocean Grove, but staying on the north side of OG will be closer to Asbury (where all the action is). The further east you stay, the closer you are to the beach!

Flight

Newark International Airport (EWR)

Newark is the easiest airport for arrivals, both if you are renting a car or taking the train. If taking public transit, you will ride the North Jersey Coast Line from the airport all the way down to Asbury. There will be one transfer in the town of Long Branch (you only cross a small train platform, no stress). If driving, you will ride the Garden State Parkway most of the way down, then a quick ride on state highways will drop you into Asbury or Ocean Grove.

North Jersey Coast Line

This train line leaves from New York Penn station, and connects through Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, and Newark International Airport before continuing down to Asbury. There is a brief transfer in the town of Long Branch, but otherwise it's a very simple trip. I've included a link to the map of NJ Transit, as scheduling is currently only available to February of 2020.

Flight

La Guardia Airport (LGA) & John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK)

Both airports are fairly close together, buses or rideshares can take you right to Penn Station or the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Alternatively, the drive would be about 1hr and 20min to 2hrs.

Flight

Philadelphia Airport (PHL)

This airport is about 1.5hrs drive away from Asbury Park. I would only recommend this airport if you are renting a car, or riding with someone who is! The trains would take you all the way to NYC, then back down to Asbury.
