Our Garba night is going to be a fusion of an American-style Reception with a traditional Garba night filled with energetic and playful dancing that commonly takes place before weddings. Garba is a typical Gujarati folk dance that everyone can participate in with easy to learn, short, repetitive steps. Depending on the weather, part of this event may take place outside. We recommend wearing clothes that are comfortable to move around in.

During the morning event on May 8, Krishna's parents will perform some pre-wedding ceremonies, known as Manglik Prasango. They begin with Ganesh Puja which is a prayer seeking peace and God’s blessings over the couple, their homes and all wedding-related tasks ahead. The ceremonies will end with Krishna and Shimon's Pithi (turmeric paste; "pee-tee") ceremony. This is a playful and fun occasion during which family members and friends bless the couple with well wishes by rubbing the Pithi paste onto the bride and groom's face and limbs. The Pithi Ceremony symbolizes the cleansing and purification of the bride and groom before the wedding. This event will take place outdoors and will be followed by lunch.

The Groom’s procession (Baraat) takes place just before the ceremony and will begin near the front entrance of the venue. Shimon and his family and friends will make a grand entrance with music, dancing and high energy that you won't be able to miss! The Baraat is followed by Ponkvu, a very entertaining, sweet and funny ritual. After arriving at the venue, Shimon will touch his soon-to-be mother-in-law’s feet for her blessings, and she will try to grab his nose while he dodges her attempts. This playful ritual is to remind Shimon to be humble as he's here to ask for their daughter's hand! Krishna's guests are welcome to take part in this celebration, but we understand if you prefer to join us at the ceremony! This event is traditionally outdoors. If we receive spring showers, we will move this party inside!

The Gujarati wedding ceremony will begin at 6.30pm and run about an hour. Literally "tying the knot," the ceremony has several different mini traditions that you can read about: https://www.theknot.com/content/hindu-wedding-traditions. After the ceremony, dinner will be served and the couple will mingle with guests, seek their blessing and take photos! This event is also outdoors, unless we receive spring showers.
