The Proposal

Canada Day 2019

Over the July 4th week, Kris and I traveled to Banff and despite being in the middle of the year, we hit 30-40°F weather (0°C) and constant rain (perhaps unsurprisingly given every border crossing to Canada we've made has coincided with terrible weather). After numerous panic attacks - whether it was Kris trying to retrieve an item on our hike from my bag where I had hidden the ring, the weather forecast saying I had a brief window of hours before torrential rain/snow inundated us, or our photographer/videographer getting lost while searching for McDonalds - we finally arrived at Peyto Lake in Jasper. Lake Peyto has the most mesmerizing emerald turquoise water that I could stare at forever, but I could only find myself staring into the similarly blue eyes of the most beautiful lady in front of me. I had prepared a long speech about why Kris is the only person in the world who understands me, and how I fell in love with her, but found myself tearing and lost for words. I struggled to get my words out but think I said something that made us both start crying. I still don't remember if you actually said yes but the warmth of your embrace was all I needed. It was all I've ever wanted. And all I will ever need. (And now, I can't possibly forget when Canada Day is again)
