A more residential city than San Francisco but not without a lack of activities! There is great shopping at Westfield Valley Fair Mall and Santana Row, a spooky tour of the Winchester Mystery House, the Tech Museum of Innovation (because how could there not be?), and Mount Hermon Adventure. Dinning recommendations including Falafel Drive-In, Cafe Rosalena (breakfast burritos), Zona Rosa, Stan's Donuts, 10 Butchers Korean BBQ and Testarossa Winery.
So many things to do and to many things to say about the city! Live music, comedy shows, and walking tours are a fun option. A few dining recommendations include The Buena Vista, Divisadero Street, Tony's Pizza Napoletana, and Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar (if you are looking something themed). Activities include touring Alcatraz, Lombard Street, Pier 39 and Fisherman's Warf (checkout Boudin Sourdough!), Ferry Building Marketplace, Golden Gate Park, Lands End Hike, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
About 2 hours north of San Jose, Napa Valley has many options for wining tasting and dining. There is even the Napa Valley Wine Train, a vintage train and traveling restaurant running through the valley.
Big Sur is a scenic region along California's Pacific Ocean seacoast. It extends southward from Carmel, just south of Monterey to the Hearst Castle at San Simeon. Full of dramatic scenery and little towns with quaint shops and eats, Big Sur is known as the longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the US. Recommendations for eating include Nepenthe, Post Ranch Inn, and Big Sur Deli. Activities include Limekiln State Park, Partington Cove, and McWay Falls.
