Our story should really be titled, "God's story" as it is truly a tale of God's goodness and kindness to the two of us. I (Kendall) vividly remember walking into Spanish class the first day of my sophomore year and sitting at a diagonal behind a cute junior I had never seen before. Little did I know, that long-haired, scrawny (sorry babe) baseball player would become a friend, then a boyfriend, then a fiance, and one day soon, a husband. Our first year of knowing each other was purely as friends, as Reid was in another relationship at the time, but that season ended up being such a blessing for the following reasons: 1) When we both ended up in Anatomy the following year with no other friends in the class, we decided we might as well sit together and 2) Once we started "talking", it took no more than a single week for us to DTR, as the kids like to say, and become boyfriend and girlfriend. I will admit that I may have been a bit eager on that one, as I definitely looked at Reid after our first actual date and said, "So, are you going to ask me out or what?" - but I guess it ended up being the right move ;). Over the course of the next 4.5 years, we embarked on many adventures, both together and miles apart. From Vandegrift prom to moving Reid into his dorm at Texas, from me joining him at UT Austin only to transfer a year later to the other UT in Knoxville, from Reid's baptism to my college swim meets, from vacations in Hawaii and Florida to road trips all across Texas, we have truly been through it all. While I can't say that long-distance dating is the most enjoyable experience I have been through, I will say that the Lord used it to refine our relationship, enhance our communication skills, and force us to depend on Him fully and completely to sustain us. I would not trade that time for the world. To Be Continued...
Now for the moment that led us to the one we sit in now as we write this blurb for you all! May 23, 2021 - The day began with worshipping the Lord alongside some of our closest people at The Austin Stone downtown, followed by an elongated brunch (elongated due to the detailed timeline I was obviously unaware of) at honestly a random spot that I chose downtown lol. Once it was time, Reid led me back to the car for me to find a basket full of getting ready tools, a beautiful dress, and heels for me to change into. He blindfolded me and drove to a secret location, and upon arrival, we unpacked the umbrella and walked in together hand in hand. When I tell you it was the most beautiful setup I have ever seen in my life, I am truly not exaggerating. As you can imagine, I had dreamed of that moment a time or two in my life (or maybe 100), and Reid blew every fantasy out of the water. Even despite him knocking over a lantern when he got on one knee, it was the perfect moment and one I will never, EVER forget. After saying a definite YES!! , we took lots and lots of pictures before heading home to celebrate with many of our closest family and friends. I want to sincerely thank every individual that went into making that day so sweet, whether you organized the event or purely kept it a secret from me ;), I am truly so grateful. As we embark on this next season of our relationship, we are constantly reminded of the Lord's grace that has been showered on us each step of the way. We are two very imperfect people who could not have had this kind of journey if it wasn't for Jesus. It is our prayer that by witnessing our love for one another, your trust in HIS goodness and faithfulness will grow, as we can only love because he loves us. Can't wait to celebrate with you all soon! XOXO, Kendall and Reid
