The oldest whitewater festival in CO is happening in downtown Salida the same weekend as our wedding! It is held from Thursday - Sunday. Salida is about a 30min drive from downtown Buena Vista. There will be rafting, kayaking, and other river races, as well as food vendors and concerts! This is a great excuse to head to Salida to check out this awesome town. Salida has great restaurants, shops and bars as well!
If you're heading to Salida, do. not. miss out on Sweetie's. Amazing sandwiches, salads, soups & sweets. They were even featured in a Vogue article!

If you're in the area for an extended period (or even an extra day), consider making the absolutely stunning 2 hour drive from BV to Crested Butte. You'll take Cottonwood Pass and can make a stop at the continental divide, which is worth a trip up the pass in itself! Crested Butte is our 2nd favorite town in Colorado. The drive into town is like something out of a movie. Visit Emerald Lake (but be warned of the rugged dirt road - SUVs are best for this) or bop around the cute downtown area. There is tons of stuff to get into in this town and surrounding areas!
If you have extra time, rent a pontoon (or a fishing boat) at Taylor Park Marina and head out on one of the most beautiful mountain reservoirs in Colorado.
Awesome new hot springs and botanical gardens only 10min from downtown BV!
