The Uber/taxi situation is very limited to non-existent, especially in the busy summer months. Luckily, BV is a small, walkable town for most! We definitely recommend having access to a car if you plan to venture outside the downtown BV area or are staying outside of downtown/near the venue. Sidenote: this is also why we HIGHLY recommend booking a place to stay in the downtown area. Transportation is hard to come by, and without a designated driver, you may find it difficult to get around if you want to have a few drinks. Wedding shuttles will most likely not make special stops.
The name(s) on your wedding invitation envelope include all individuals invited to the events. While we wish we could invite everyone, we are unfortunately not able to accommodate a +1 for every guest. Please reach out to Kevin or Kendall directly with questions and requests!
We will have shuttles running from 2 or 3 pickup points in the downtown BV area. The shuttles will drop off at the wedding ceremony & reception site, and will also transport guests from the venue back to the downtown area for the after party! Some shuttles will drop off at the main hotels for guests who want to head home after the reception. More details on these to come!
The best way to get to BV is by rental car. You can rent through one of the classic airport car rental services, or use an app like Turo. If you're looking for a cheaper option, the CDOT Bustang Outrider bus runs from Union Station (downtown Denver) to Buena Vista and costs around $24. You can take the light rail directly from DIA to Union Station to catch the bus! There is also a bus that leaves from DIA called the Epic Mountain Express, but this option appears to be more costly and time consuming. If you have friends in Denver, ask for a ride! We always encourage carpooling ;)
Buena Vista's elevation is about 8,000 feet. We recommend drinking LOTS of water starting before you even get on your flight. Staying hydrated is the best way to avoid altitude sickness (a rare occurrence but an unpleasant one). Seriously, just don't stop drinking H20. Bring a reusable water bottle with you and keep that thang on you at all possible times. We've lived here for a decade and still have to drink 3x the water we do at lower elevations. Be careful when drinking alcohol (especially on your first day). The elevation and thin mountain air will make you feel intoxicated faster than you're used to at a lower elevation. Start slow and have a glass of water with or between drinks. You'll also likely notice that you are winded more easily when walking or exercising. This is normal! If you plan on scheduling a hike, be sure to take breaks when you need to and, again, keep drinking water. Your skin will feel dryer than normal. Make sure to bring body and face lotion if your accommodations don't already provide it. Ibuprofen and Aquaphor for your lips aren't a bad idea either!
Welcome to the mountains of Colorado, where you can never really know for sure! BV is nestled between the Collegiate Peaks mountain range and the Arkansas River. It is known as the "Fourteener Region," because Chaffee County has more 14,000 foot mountain peaks than any other county in the state. The mountain ranges surrounding the area can make the weather unpredictable, but the good news is - most rainstorms pass very quickly (we're talking minutes most of the time)! June is not typically a rainy month in BV, but again, you never know. We expect it to be in the mid- to high-70s, possibly creeping into the 80's. It could get chilly at night, so please bring a light jacket just in case.
Our wedding is adults only. If you'd like to bring the kids along on the trip to Colorado, please plan for childcare during the welcome party and wedding day/night.
