We encourage everyone to make a vacation out of it and come a week early. This is also a great idea for anyone who may struggle with the altitude and need some time to adjust. Here are a few ideas for those who might choose to come to Colorado early: TELLURIDE: In the Telluride area, there is no shortage of activities from fly fishing to hiking to rafting to hiking. The bride and groom plan to be in town the week prior to the wedding as well. For the golfers in the group, if you stay at the Peaks Resort in Mountain Village (note, we do not recommend staying in Mountain Village during the wedding weekend), they can get you tee times at the Telluride Ski & Golf Club. DUNTON HOT SPRINGS: About an hour from Telluride, this is a magical resort great for a couple looking for a quick getaway! OTHER SPOTS IN COLORADO: For those driving from Denver, there are many great options to stop including: Aspen Crested Butte Boulder (our new hometown!) The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs Feel free to ask us for more ideas, we're full of ‘em!
The average temperature in July in Telluride has a high 75 degrees in the day (it feels hotter than this as the sun is quite strong) and a low of 45 degrees at night.
The town of Telluride is at an elevation of 8,750 feet above sea level and we’ll be saying “I do” at over 13,000 feet. Please be sure to hydrate and do your Wim Hoff breathing exercises (we're told they really work). If altitude is of concern, we suggest spending a few days in Denver, Boulder, or Colorado Springs to acclimatize before driving to Telluride. Please get in touch with Kelsey or Roger if you need any recommendations. Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate! Water is the number one way to help your body adjust to our high and dry air. Altitude accelerates dehydration. You need to drink twice the amount of water here as you would at home. Monitor your alcohol intake. Alcohol actually slows down the body’s adjustment to elevation. Monitor your alcohol consumption over your first few days. You will feel its effects faster than usual, so be aware and make sure to drink water as well. Give your body time to adjust. If altitude is of concern, we suggest spending a few days in Denver, Boulder, or Colorado Springs to acclimatize before driving to Telluride. Please get in touch with Kelsey or Roger if you need any recommendations. Visit an oxygen bar: If you’re really feeling it while you’re in Telluride, we highly recommend a visit to an oxygen bar as a quick fix! Note, some require appointments.
