We met on the ~ internet ~ via okcupid in 2015. Kelly liked that Stephen had an easily google-able job that she could creep on before they met (@monksigns on instagram, fyi), that he was artsy, and that he had checked "likes cats" on his profile (a truly useful feature). Stephen liked Kelly's unique blend of humor, tech smarts, and baseball fandom, in an exotic (for Chicago) East Coast package. Oh and also her pretty brown eyes and big gray cat. Our first date was at The Whistler in Logan Square. There was a band noisily warming up so we changed venues to The Rocking Horse a few blocks down and split a basket of tater tots. Stephen knew every obscure song that the bartender put on. Even though it was a weeknight, we talked for hours and Stephen walked his bike so he could walk Kelly back to the blue line. Kelly left for Spring Training with her mom the next week, and tried to find signs that were FUN and COOL to text to Stephen so he would know she was interested. Once we were both back in Chicago, we got burgers, we went dancing at the Hideout, we did a bunch of Michigan roadtrips, we went to Puerto Rico, we moved in together, we got a cat (bringing the total to 2 cats), we hung out for a whole pandemic, and now we are so excited to make it official-official, and celebrate with all of you.
