Travel Note

Potential Weather Issues

Given the time of year, there is unfortunately a heightened risk for travel issues (flight delays, cancellations, etc). If you’re flying, we’d recommend you please fly in on the Thursday or Wednesday before hand, if you’re able, in case of any issues. New York City and Boston are each only a few hours away and are great places to spend some extra time on the front end!

Hotel

Holiday Inn Express Branford-New Haven

309 East Main Street
Branford, CT 06405
 (203) 488-4035

This is the most conveniently located while also nice hotel near the venue! Most of the wedding attendants will be staying here and this is where shuttles will be running from. It is quite nice with good room rates (should be about $112 for a room with 1 king bed or 2 queens), pool, breakfast, and is only 6 min from the venue and 10 min from our welcome event rental house. Best rates are generally through Hotels.com and Booking.com!

Flight

Flying from UK

>>(1)<< New York (JFK, EWF, SWF) is generally the cheapest option for international travel. It is a 1.5 hr drive or 3.5 hour train to New Haven, CT (which is a 10 min ride from the venue). >>(2)<< Boston is a 2.5 hour drive or a 3.5 hour train. >>(3)<< Hartford is the closest airport (1 hr drive) though often expensive for international travel (unless you’re flying from Dublin). There is a train from Hartford to New Haven. NOTE: If coming from Edinburgh, it can sometimes be cheaper to fly from Glasgow instead.

Flight

Flying domestic in USA

>>(1)<< Hartford is the closest airport (1 hr drive or train) though is generally expensive to fly to. >>(2)<< New York (JFK or EWF) is generally the cheapest option for travel. It is a 1.5 hour drive or 3.5 hour train to New Haven, CT (which is about 10 min from the venue). >>(3)<< Boston is a 2.5 hour drive or a 3.5 hour train.

Travel Note

Carpooling

Please let Katie know your travel plans if you’re willing to/ would like to car pool! There will likely be a lot of people flying in, and it would be great to sync people up to ease the travel. Driving tends to be easier than the train, and can be cheaper if split between a group.

Rental Car

Kayak

Rental car prices vary widely depending what airport you are picking up from (cheapest from Hartford, then from Boston, then from NYC). Renting from and returning to different airports also usually incurs an additional fee. Kayak is generally a good search engine to find the best rental deals, though there are also many others. If you plan to rent a car, please let me know if you’d be willing to give a ride to anyone else.

Travel Note

Uber or Lyft in area

Uber and Lyft are both available in the area, as are yellow cabs. If you’ve not used these apps before, let someone attending know so they can provide you a link to get you both a discount. Lyft: Get $5 off your first 10 rides with code GMAPS50
