The Saint Louis Zoo is a gem. It's consistently ranked as one of the best zoos in the United States. The best part is - ITS FREE.
You'll have an excellent view of the Arch from our reception venue but if you want the whole Saint Louis experience, you should take a ride to the top ($34 - adults, $22 children). The Arch grounds just underwent a massive renovation and the park is quite beautiful overlooking the mighty Mississippi River.
Not your grandma's museum! Honestly, we're not sure how to explain this here's an excerpt from its website: "Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children’s playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. The brainchild of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly, a classically trained sculptor and serial entrepreneur, the museum opened for visitors in 1997 to the riotous approval of young and old alike. Cassilly and his longtime crew of 20 artisans have constructed the museum from the very stuff of the city; and, as a result, it has urban roots deeper than any other institutions’. Reaching no farther than municipal borders for its reclaimed building materials, City Museum boasts features such as old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, miles of tile, and even two abandoned planes!" If you have a kid/s or are a bit of a kid at heart - go!
It doesn't get more Saint Louis than this. Take a tour of one of the U.S.'s largest macrobreweries. From the site: "From the history-rich architecture - including three National Historic Landmarks - to cutting-edge brewing technology, you will witness first-hand the heritage and timeless tradition Anheuser-Busch employs to brew beer."
Speaking of AB - you can get up close and personal with the famous Anheuser Busch Clydesdales. Grant's Farm used to be private property of the Busch family - now it's open to the public and a family-friendly! You can take a private tour for $25 to see the impressive Clydesadales.
Imo's Pizza is your classic Saint Louis-style pizza. Extremely thin crust with provel cheese. We always get onion, sausage and green pepper. Don't forget to order the toasted ravioli.
I never come to Saint Louis without stopping at Katie's Pizza and Pasta. The from-scratch pasta is to die for. Just make sure you make a reservation!
For all you New Yorkers - you know the boat house deal. Saint Louis' boat house is a little different though - you can actually take a paddle boat out into the lakes at Forest Park. If the weather's nice, it's a sweet way to see the park while you wait for a seat!
Looking for a drink? You can't go wrong with McGurks - an Irish bar in Soulard.
Saint Louis Ballpark Village is a dining and entertainment district in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, owned by the investment group that controls the St. Louis Cardinals, the city's professional baseball team. It's a great place to watch a game and there are a number of bars and restaurants inside!
Take a giant step back in time at Crown Candy Kitchen. Maybe you’ve spotted the vintage jukebox, the coca-cola collectibles or the soda fountain. You might not be aware that Crown Candy Kitchen is one of St Louis’ oldest and most popular attractions. Crown Candy Kitchen was opened in 1913 by Harry Karandzieff and his best friend Pete Jugaloff. They brought their confectionary skills from Greece. During the early 50’s Harry’s son George took the business over and built the business into what it is today. Now George’s three sons – Andy, Tommy and Mike run the business with a little help from the 4th generation. ** This is a place Katie spent many fond memories with her grandparents. They make the chocolate in house!
